Sertraline for anxiety

It's taken me years of trying to help myself for me to realise I needed to see the GP. But anyway today I took my first 50mg dose of sertraline for anxiety. I've heard of it for depression but not anxiety. Any experiences?

It has really helped my anxiety hugely. I did have bad side effects for the first couple of weeks though but then things really improved.

Its magic stuff. Got me through PNA, no side effects and weaned easily off it when I was ready.
Good luck

I took it for anxiety but it made me so extremely anxious I thought I was going to do something stupid.
It was only reading the threads on here that I found out it can make some people’s anxiety horrific in the early days before calming down. So much so that drs in some cases prescribe diazepam to take along side it.

I’m not saying this will happen to you, I think I was an extreme case but don’t be surprised if it makes you feel a bit worse before feeling better. I had to stop taking it and use something else. I know of other people who take it and have had no problems at all.

I was prescribed it for depression. I didn't realise I had anxiety until the knot in my stomach disappeared a few days later. Fabulous stuff!

It helped my anxiety too but I needed a higher dose. The side effects can be harsh at first but hang in there.

I'm on it for anxiety. It's made a huge difference. The side effects are shit at the beginning, but they disappear quite quickly.

Interesting question. I have been struggling with anxiety but I work in public transport and would need to have a lot of time on light duties to make sure I had no side effects. I can’t really bare the thought of everyone at work knowing and then it doesn’t even work.

My main questions are does it numb your emotions too much or kill your sex drive? Can it disturb sleep?

Thanks everyone. Thought I'd pop on and update as I'm 3 days in to the tablets. The first day I was nauseous on and off but not awful. I've also had a tight jaw too. The nausea was there yesterday but not today. I've been getting headaches from the jaw tightness. Plus a couple of moments of fatigue like I could just fall asleep. But that's it in terms of side effects and today I mostly feel fine apart from the headache but that's treatable. Oddly I do feel calmer already. I can't decide if that's genuine or psychological.

I had a terrible first two weeks on it, but it was massively helpful. It's been one of the best decisions I've ever made. I suffer from terrible anxiety, mainly related to health, and 0CD
