Conspiracy theories needed please

Bloody homeschooling.

My plan this week has been to give my dc a new conspiracy theory every day, we have done whether the moon landing videos were real or not, then whether crop circles were real or not, so they look at evidence from both sides and form their opinions then tell me why they think that.

Any other vaguely child friendly (11 and 13) things we could research?

TIA Flowers

What about looking at conspiracy theories that actually turned out to be true - false flags like Operation Northwoods, MKUltra, etc.

@StepOutOfLine I know the girls 'confessed' but find it quite fascinating (plus apparently they maintained one was real?)

Paul McCartney

@StepOutOfLine

My favourite is that Jim Morrison didn't die but had plastic surgery and is actually Barry Manilow.
I knew a woman who ‘knew’ Jim Morrison wasn’t dead because she met someone on the stairs at a party who looked like him, she asked ‘“Is that you?” and he replied “yes”

100% evidence - from the stoned drunk woman

Brilliant idea OP. Interesting but also excellent training in critical thinking.

In a similar vein, mine really enjoyed this (and were worryingly good at it):

The earth is flat
Avril lavigne and Paul McCartney are dead
Michelle Obama is a TS (admittedly I went down a rabbit hole when I heard that one... Prob not suitable for the children though)

The truth is often stranger than fiction. MKultra was genuine - however the conspiracies that come out of it are a different matter

MKultra and related programmes did conduct experiments on soldiers and others with LSD etc
Another one where the truth is stranger than fiction is the story behind ‘the men who stare at goats’. There were experiments with mind bending drugs and new age trippy hippy stuff trying to use the power of the mind etc.

My paintball team has a similar logo and name to some US units, one of which falls under the ‘special’ units that had fallen under some of these experiments. I was contacted by one of their ex soldiers inviting us to join his worldwide ‘new earth army’. I had to explain that we were just a bunch of paintballers playing games, but he kept in touch for a while.

I banned everyone from responding to him and made them leave it to me as the only contact - yes he was just a crazy man, but a crazy man survivalist with real ex special services skills and the resources and contacts.

When we were originally in touch before I eventually blocked him he was crazy but a skilled survivalist and appeared on prepper & survival TV shows etc. More recently he was spotted on a show with a new plan to evade a tsunami by first canoeing out into the ocean to get an easier route up Hawaii’s volcano
I’m not so convinced that the best route to avoid a tidal wave is to canoe out to sea!

I assume you know about www.snopes.com - very addictive!

JesusInTheCabbageVan · 27/01/2021 20:11

And on that note - bloody hell!

DifficultPifcultLemonDifficult · 28/01/2021 12:44

Bloody hell indeed Jesus thats a mistake and a half to make.

We are doing flat earth today and nessie tomorrow.

They are really loving this so I'll definitely keep it going through lockdown. Thanks so much for all the ideas.
