I’ve only recently heard of these atrocities and would like to learn more. Can anyone suggest a book or dvd that I can watch. Tia

The Magdalene Sisters is a great movie but fictional - I am sure there are some documentaries if you google.

+1 for the film. It’s chilling. I think a couple characters are based on real people though.

If you have Al Jazeera channel in your TV package there was recently a 2 part documentary on this as part of the People and Power series
There are 2 film dramas based on what happened. The Magdelen Sisters and Philomena

The Magdalene Sisters is one of my favourite movies. You will need tissues though.
I always think of the laundries as being something from the distant past. The last one closed in my lifetime. :(

I've also read a couple of books by people who worked in them. If I can remember the titles I'll add them. One was by a trainee midwife who was sent to assist in one.

There has been at least one inquiry and perhaps reading at least the summary report would tell you a lot. The main one was in 2013.
