I’ve only recently heard of these atrocities and would like to learn more. Can anyone suggest a book or dvd that I can watch. Tia

The Magdalene Sisters is a great movie but fictional - I am sure there are some documentaries if you google.

Get your tissues ready, it's so sad

+1 for the film. It’s chilling. I think a couple characters are based on real people though.

If you have Al Jazeera channel in your TV package there was recently a 2 part documentary on this as part of the People and Power series
There are 2 film dramas based on what happened. The Magdelen Sisters and Philomena

The Magdalene Sisters is one of my favourite movies. You will need tissues though.
I always think of the laundries as being something from the distant past. The last one closed in my lifetime. :(

I've also read a couple of books by people who worked in them. If I can remember the titles I'll add them. One was by a trainee midwife who was sent to assist in one.

The book I'm thinking of is called The Light In The Window and it's by Jane Goulding.

There has been at least one inquiry and perhaps reading at least the summary report would tell you a lot. The main one was in 2013.
