How oh how, can Tesco slots be gone in 60 seconds...

I am CEV, and make a point of waiting for the date to click over at midnight to try and get a spot, with only one exception Tesco have been outstanding since all of this started ( and I was a Sainsburys shopper all my life, but now converted)

But how oh how can all the priority slots begone before you have time to click on home delivery ?

Not moaning, just musing.

I have clearly been lucky up to now.

Just for clarity I called back which is where they could see I was priority.

Everyone I know who is genuinely reliant on supermarket deliveries does what you do so I can well believe that all slots are gone within a minute of being opened up :(

Glenchase · 27/01/2021 11:22

Pass holders can see slots four weeks in advance. Priority slots are only available two weeks in advance. So the slots will all have been booked weeks ago by pass holders.

It’s different depending on where in the country you are. I haven’t had a slot for Morrisons since March lockdown. I can however get Tesco and Asda regularly but since March I’ve been booking 3 weeks in advance just in case.

WouldBeGood · 27/01/2021 11:28

Click and collect is pretty good if you baby get a delivery, very efficient and just as safe. Assuming you have a car, obviously! I think Morrison’s will even put it in the boot for you

WouldBeGood · 27/01/2021 11:29

Can’t!!! Not baby 😘

FinallyFluid · 27/01/2021 11:31

Just to reiterate, that I am very grateful to Tesco, and this is not a moan, more of a musing.

Back in April I used to sit up until midnight to get a slot, and if I couldn’t get one then I’d check how long the slot is held for (it varies shop to shop, but is usually 1.5-2.5 hours) and set my alarm and try to pick up a slot then as many people don’t check out properly. Obviously I’m sorry for them, but me not taking a slot won’t get them a second chance.

AnnaSW1 · 27/01/2021 11:36

We have delivery saver and I can always book four weeks in advance.

FinallyFluid · 27/01/2021 11:38

Don't ask me how,........ I have repetitive strain injury from clicking. Grin

But I have just snagged one for February 15th.

For our shopping, I'd usually use only use one slot per month. Because of the 95 item limit at Tesco, I'm having to use one per week. The item limit just doesn't make sense now. I understood initially, but not now. It's such a waste of slots.

ScatteredMama82 · 27/01/2021 11:48

I find they come on at random times. I looked yesterday and there was nothing until 15th Feb. Looked again this morning and there were a couple available tomorrow evening.

dancingthroughthedark · 27/01/2021 11:50

Having not found any with any supermarket for weeks for the last month or so I have found trying around 9pm there are often one or two for the next day with Tesco or late morning for a next day with Waitrose. I presume it's when people cancel last minute.

ThePricklySheep · 27/01/2021 11:51

We’ve been told by Sainsbury’s that it’s worth booking a slot for click and collect and then seeing if you can move it to delivery.
Might be worth a try.

Mirrorxx · 27/01/2021 11:52

We’ve just moved house, only a few miles. At our old address you could get a tesco slot with a couple of days notice yet at our new address there are no slots on the entire calendar.

ShakeaHettyFeather · 27/01/2021 11:56

Our Sainsbury's only lets you book up to a week in advance, but generally has slots. Tesco hasn't had a slot since November, nor has Ocado or any other shop, though we did get a Waitrose slot once.

We now have an alarm set for 11am the day before a shop is due, to book the next one.

Covidcorvid · 27/01/2021 11:59

Must vary so much from area to area. I can get a tesco slot any day, any time no problem. I don't have a pass.

The only supermarket I struggle with is Ocado still, but even then I can get something over a week away so just need to be organised.

But back in March/April Tesco were definitely releasing the slots at odd times. I never had any success at midnight but would find late afternoon/early evening slots were released and also about 11am.

If concerts in normal times can be sold out in under a minute, this does not surprise me.

orangenasturtium · 27/01/2021 12:29

Tesco have been amazing with priority slots for my DM. Far better than Ocado who refused to give her a priority slot because she had only been a customer for a few months before lockdown. Sorry you're struggling to get a slot.

If you are within 10 miles of a Morrisons, they have a free, brilliant next day delivery service by phone for the elderly, CEV and those self isolating:
my.morrisons.com/doorstep-deliveries/

Iceland usually have next day delivery slots available too. They do fresh groceries as well as frozen food.
