I watched a comedy bit once (that I now can't find) where it was talking about wanky pronunciations of places etc

Batterceya for battersea
claham instead of Clapham
St Ockwell
And they said what next?
Vauzall in stead of Vauxhall 😂

I had a posh friend who would play down shopping at the big shop in Knightsbridge (back in 80s) by calling it HA rods

What others do you know of??

Sort of the opposite but when I first moved to London I had a long and painful discussion with someone over the phone asking for documents relating to ‘south wark ’. Apparently I was a bit think for not knowing how ‘Southwark’ was actually pronounced.

It's Ashby-de-la-ZOOSH.... but I', starting to doubt myself now!

it's not all that far from UTCH-uh-tuh - spelled Uttoxeter.

Sore-bee for Sowerby if you are up north, it's from the Scandinavian Sor and by.

Frome is pronounced 'Froom' rather than to rhyme with dome which often confuses people (particularly someone working at a ticket office at the train station who told me it didnt exist!)
