I wish my DC were this attentive! Grin

5 seconds after this picture was taken the girl throws her pencil at her brother. Then you notice the older one has been writing rude words in their school books.....

Homeschooling can always looks perfect for the second it takes to snap the picture lol

Some look more engaged than others...

Got to remember it was the days most children would have had a clip around the ear if they made a sound.

The one on the right looks like he's enjoying that Geography book Grin

The lad leaning forwards to "listen to the radio" has a right look of mischief on him

Housing101 · 26/01/2021 19:19

Getting to listen to radio was probably quite exciting back then

My DM was telling about a school closure she had in the early sixties. They did nothing for the whole two weeks, except help their parents. My mother remembers knitting a lot of clothes for her baby sister.

Yeah, I'm not at all convinced that they were actually doing any learning at all. They posed and then all hell broke our, or William Brown (the leaning one) pocketed his tip abs went straight to the sweet shop with the outlaws.

I have some very angelic pictures from homeschooling this lockdown Grin ... it’s not actually reality most of the time but I think in a few years I’ll forget and the fake memory will replace the real one!

Great pic. Wonder if they are siblings or friends?

As a child I remember being fascinated by a documentary about the School of the Air in Australia www.australian-children.com/school-of-the-air. I presume it still exists?

Whoateallthechocolate · 26/01/2021 20:55

Good to see that there were the equivalent of Instagram mums in the '40s. Do you think there's also a photo of them "making memories" playing on a bombed out house?

MechantGourmet · 26/01/2021 20:58

Great picture, but shame that's an American household!

The boys' noses look similar so I'd say siblings.
