Are there any newly qualified teachers here?

If so, can I pick your brain please?
I'm 2/3 through my degree and I'm trying to plan my next steps. I want to teach, preferably primary. I'm aware I need to complete teacher training but how did you go about it? PGCE? I'm trying to work out the best route, any insight would be amazing

A SCITT course is more school-based than a PGCE but both get you the qualification. Without wanting to sound patronising, make sure you spend time in schools volunteering (hard to do at the moment!) or really talk to some teachers before you train about what to expect. It can be a horrendous career to go into, especially if you're not really sure what the job entails. Not saying you're not, but just in case you haven't looked into it yet.

Thank you. I've done some work in schools years ago. I've seen the rough side of teaching and, maybe I'm crazy Grin, but I'd still like to go ahead. I'm hoping by time I've finished university things will be a bit more normal. I'd quite like to go the SCITT route, I need to do more research.
