Boohoo buying Debenhams but not the stores

Quick question (from a business numpty Blush) what exactly have they bought if they haven’t bought real estate? Just the Debenhams name and brand names? Stock?

Sorry to those who have lost their jobs Flowers.

Debenhams doesn’t own the real estate - it rents it. It sold its freehold properties and then rented them back in 2005.

AFAIK they have bought the brand but not the stores. They might also have bought Debenham's beauty business, some or all of the supply contracts, customer lists and any intellectual property.

So they could take all of Debenham's materials and name, and possibly future collections, and offer them on-line.

Something I read said intellectual property rights to their brands, name and website.

I’m hoping I can still get mantaray jeans and blue zoo kids clothes.

The beauty counter side I think was still to be fully resolved. I wonder how they will be able to compete against The Hut Group et al who have been doing online beauty sales for decades now.

I suspect that they just want to trade using the Debenham 'brand' and reputation.

After many recent news stories I think the reputation for Boohoo is rather low and their ethics questionable.

I don't think one will see the range of offerings from the 'new' Debenham as one could buy from the stores. Although I would love to be proved wrong...

Does anyone here think the Debenhams name is worth what they paid for it. Not in a nasty way but I honestly think it must be 5 years or so since I made a purchase in store and although I might have followed the odd link to Debenhams online I’ve not browsed the site for a maybe a year or more. I’m not sure what would temp me back. M&S and Next on the other hand are my go-to’s maybe it’s different for others?

I heard on the radio that they sold stock through Debenham's already and want to continue with the brand online

Also looking like ASOS are going to buy some of the Acardia group, Miss Selfridge and Top Shop
