I’ll start

The Meg...

The whole idea of the film, is that the megladons were living in the deep sea ocean and couldn’t come up because of the barrier (can’t remember the name right now).

Yet the beginning of the movie... the submarine is attacked by a megladon...without breaching the barrier

No one?

Years ago when DH and I were first together, we went to see Atonement. Really enjoying it. Anyway there was a scene in which someone was laid in a bath looking up through a skylight when I spitfire flies over. DH loudly announces, ruining the mood, that that model of spitfire hadn't been produced at that stage of the war.

AudTheDeepAndCrispAndEven · 26/01/2021 14:21

Oh, and the scene in 'Ghosts' (BBC series) where the archaeologist is removing the bones of the plague victim. NO WAY would they have been allowed to lay them on a wheeled trolley and just push them out into the open. They would be packed away out of sight (strict views about this now) and transported in boxes and wrappings appropriate to aid in their conservation and any scientific analysis that would be needed, so no chance of contamination etc. Grrrr.

ASnowman · 26/01/2021 14:23

There were loads of continuity things in Bridgerton that bugged me. People walking off without their diamonds etc. 😁

Soubriquet · 26/01/2021 14:24

A quiet place

Why didn’t they live near the waterfalls where sound is masked?

I get they liked their house, but surely a tent near the waterfalls was better than living in silence

But then again, surely you couldn’t be completely silent.

What about farting and snoring when you sleep?

What about when you sneeze or hiccup?

What about when you burp?

@Soubriquet yes I agree re A Quiet Place, I really enjoyed it and suspended my disbelief but the daughter who is deaf, she wouldn't really have any idea how much noise she was making so not sure how she managed to keep so quiet! Also giving birth in complete silence, impressive Grin I know it's not real.....

LunaNorth · 26/01/2021 14:35

I’ve always said, and I still maintain, that there’s no way Ripley would have risked letting the alien on board for that cat.

Ruined the whole film for me.

Soubriquet · 26/01/2021 14:35

I’m severely deaf (not as bad as the girl in the movie) but bad enough

I don’t realise how loud I am sometimes!

@Soubriquet

In The Meg the submarine goes into the marina trench passing through a thermal cloud. The thermal cloud is the barrier keeping the megladon within the marina trench. When they blow the tanks on the rescue sub they blow a temporary hole through the thermal cloud, thus releasing the meg.

I love this film and my obsession with sharks started with Jaws.

However, The Meg was loosely (and I mean loosely) based on a series of books by Steve Alten, all of which I have read.

Jason Statham has stated he would love to carry on playing Jonas Taylor in subsequent movies. However, Hollywood's grubby little mitts have probably stopped this from happening because their story is no where near the actual book.

Hollywood has a habit of doing this - look at Eregon, a four part book series written by a 15 year old Christopher polini. Hollywood brought the rights before the last three books were written and then produced the first movie which omitted several pivotal characters. Now they can't carry on with the film franchise instead they have locked the film rights away so no one else can either.

@AudTheDeepAndCrispAndEven
That's the reason my DP won't watch films with me, especially if the film is based on a book because you can guarantee I will always state 'that's not what happens in the book's

Soubriquet · 26/01/2021 15:02

I’m like that with movies taken from books

I’m like “but that’s not how they did it in the books?! Why are they deviating so badly?! It won’t make sense later!!”

I remember coming out of the cinema having watched HP and the Goblet of Fire very cross as they cut so much out and overdid things that weren't necessary. DH and I still maintain that if you'd not read the book, you wouldn't have a clue what was going on.

Watched it again recently with the DC as we'd just finished reading it and was taken aback at how they rush through it. Even in the middle of scenes, the actors are rushing their dialogue. It's like they've been told to keep it snappy because it can only be so long. I know it's a long film anyway, but it's so poorly made.

However, one that I did enjoy that was well adapted was The Green Mile. It's adapted almost word for word and I appreciated that.

Jessi1972 · 26/01/2021 15:14

Have any of you seen 13 hours - the secret soldiers of benghazi?

Watched the film first, then got the book - I was blown away by how close it was to what was written. Couple of name changes, that's about it

Can highly recommend

John krasinski stars in it - he's the guy that wrote, produced and started in A Quiet place with Emily blunt, his wife.

Can't wait to watch no 2

Soubriquet · 26/01/2021 15:15

My parents were so confused during HP and the prisoner of Azkaban

They couldn’t understand why a fuss about Hermione was made as it wasn’t obvious she wasn’t there a moment ago.

I was able to follow because I read the book

Still peeved (pun intended) that the cut Peeves

@EggyPegg Absolutely agree with you on the Harry potter films!

I much prefer reading the books, currently waiting for my first grandson to be born so I can read them to him 😂😂😂

Jessi1972 · 26/01/2021 15:24

Historical films get me annoyed when looking at the costumes where the stitching has clearly been done on a sewing machine!

There's a Robin hood film with taron egerton in it - film was ok but really made me cringe with the costumes
