Anyone have an eye for decorating? Want an eccentric bedroom!

Hello,

I'm decorating my bedroom in about 2 weeks time.

But I'm just lost. I have so many ideas floating round.

I have a gothic style but don't want to go teenage goth if that makes sense?

I do love black and white stripe.

I've seen a velvet green bed I love.

Also seen navy pax wardrobes in ikea that are gorgeous.

But non of it seems to COME TOGETHER.

These are just ideas.

Anyone want to help me find my perfect bedroom?

Do you need to decorate in 2 weeks? Might be better to take more time and find what you really like?

I think navy, dark green and black would work well together if styled appropriately. Would you prefer wallpaper or paint for the walls? I think some gold/burnished frames with interest art on the walls would draw it together.

Probably wallpaper but trouble is it's a small room so I don't want to go too dark, as contrary as that sounds.

I'm not set on those things. They're just examples of what has caught my eye.

In that case, what about painting the wall behind the headboard the exact same shade of green as the bed? White or cream on the remaining walls. Navy wardrobes would work well, as a second colour. Then white linen on the bed and choose some throw cushions that would tie it in (I think Ikea do a black and white stripe one too).

Have you got Pinterest? It's a good app for searching for and saving ideas for decorating.

Iminaglasscaseofemotion · 25/01/2021 14:23

I think having a green bed and blue wardrobes would make it hard to chose a colour for the walls. Unless you are thinking of going with black or really dark grey?

SoupDragon · 25/01/2021 14:24

Do you have a link to the bed? A dramatic green "flock" wallpaper behind the bed might work.

pickingdaisies · 25/01/2021 14:29

Can you link to the bed? It depends on the shade of green, but I can imagine a green velvet headboard against a dark blue wall, them those navy wardrobes would tie in with the blue.

This looks good, if a little busy.

That's not busy at all, you should see my living room. I like to display things. Trinkets. Taxidermy etc

this is the bed I am considering

I don’t know but I know that there’s difference between gothic and goth! I’m thinking crushed velvet, dark red, maybe patterned wall paper.

You have to come back and show us pictures of what you decide to go for!

DraculasMa · 25/01/2021 15:23

Oh that's gorgeous but a couple of rolls of that is the same as my wardrobe budget Shock

THE MARBLE EFFECT WOULD LOOK GOOD

orangenasturtium · 25/01/2021 15:34

Could you post pictures of the room and bed?

I think the PAX wardrobes are possibly a bit too minimalist and modern to work with your gothic style. I have eclectic taste and like to mix and match styles and eras but the balance has to be right. I think the bed and wardrobe would be 2 big contrasting statement pieces and you would need something to balance them out. Things usually work better aesthetically in threes/thirds. I guess if you painted the walls in a similar colour or had a very bold blue wallpaper design with green as a dominant colour, it might work.

ChippyDucks150 · 25/01/2021 15:41

Is it the navy grimmo Ikea wardrobe doors? If so I've got them, with copper handles and also looking for a dark colour to paint that will be complimentary. It's just so difficult!!

pickingdaisies · 25/01/2021 15:44

That bed is a beautiful colour. If you liked that skull wallpaper, just look at all the colours in there. There's green, teal, blue-black, dark purply crimson. The bed and the wardrobe you like would both sit happily with those colours. So maybe look for a feature wallpaper with those colours, the other walls could be teal maybe, with a pair of long velvet curtains to match the bed, or the wardrobe, or picking out one of the other colours in the feature wall. Or you can achieve similar with showstopping bedding. The feature wall could then be dressed up with mirrors, wall lights, ornate gold frames etc.

Jericha · 25/01/2021 16:08

What about a wall mural (paper) on one wall behind the bed? Lots of gothic styles out there, you could have moody looking black and white trees or something, then tie that in to the green bed and possibly the pax units. Get some raven holding the bulb bedside lamps and some accessories, think that could look lovely.

Go for the velvet bed!! I have this bed and I ABSOLUTELY LOVE IT

Not difficult to look after at all like I thought it might have been and bought anyway Grin

allmycats · 25/01/2021 19:20

Look online at the rooms in 'House of Gods' Hotel in Edinburgh. They are wonderfully eccentric, or eclectic depending on your taste. You will not be disappointed.

Puffalicious · 25/01/2021 19:24

I love your bed, it's divine. You can do navy with it OR black, in my rule book they should never be together, ever. I could never wear them together as clothes never mind as permanent as a bedroom..
