Underrated and sometimes forgotten things - Walkers Shortbread Fingers

I hadn't had them for a couple of decades and then DD wanted to make something that needed shortbread to be crumbed and used for the base so bought some. She never got around to making the thing and so we all ate the biscuits instead. Now we are all addicted to them and they are a regular in the weekly shop. Last week the biscuits were shortbread and Jaffa Cakes, and the shortbread was eaten first and the Jaffa Cakes untouched until afterwards. Shock

They are delightful dunked in tea. Or hot chocolate. It was a family tradition to have hot shortbread on Christmas day - I'm crap at making it but you can microwave Walkers shortbread for 30s and its almost the same thing Grin This year the kids devoured the packet. You have inspired me to add more to this week's list!

Sainsbury’s do a giant shortbread finger that is amazing. I don’t know who makes it for them but it tastes exactly the same as the Walker’s one, just bigger.

LaurieFairyCake · 25/01/2021 11:01

They're not quite buttery enough for me

Have yet to find the right butteriness in shop bought shortbread - but I'm working my way through the worlds stocks in hope Grin

I’ve discovered the best shortbread I’ve ever tasted! Morrison’s extra special ( ie expensive) salted caramel shortbread rounds, 8 in a box and I could eat them all in one go! The rounds not the cookies though as they weren’t so yummy

SoupDragon · 25/01/2021 11:27

I'm currently polishing off the Christmas shortbread from Waitrose. It is delicious! Only 2 fingers left now though 🙁

Have you tried Dean's all butter shortbread. It's the best, but you have to get the all butter - they no a not-so-buttery version but it isn't nearly so good Grin

I'm currently eating my fave school pudding of yoghurt with shortbread to dip in it. Yum. Works best with lemon or strawberry yoghurt.

Best thing is I ordered a pack of shortbread fingers this week and they got subbed for a large box of premium mixed shortbread with fancy fingers in. Grin

ArseInTheCoOpWindow · 25/01/2021 11:39

I can’t have shortbread in the house. It’s my most favourite thing ever. I just eat the whole pack.

Knittingnanny · 25/01/2021 11:47

I’m shocked to read on the packet of the Morrison’s ones that each ( small) round is 100 calories which means I ate 500 calories the other night with a cup of tea without stopping!

Stretchandsnap · 25/01/2021 11:57

Waitrose own brand shortbread fingers by far the best IMO - they last less than a day in our house

Knittingnanny · 25/01/2021 12:20

I may need to do a survey.... however I am on the “ shorties losing weight” chat so maybe not!

MyVisionsComeFromSoup · 25/01/2021 12:28

We used to get big bags of broken/misshapen shortbread fingers from the Walkers factory - my student housemates loved me when I came back after the holidays Grin

I came here to say shortbread fingers dipped in yogurt. Raspberry for me.

They have an outlet shop in Elgin. Shock

Mydogisagentleman · 25/01/2021 14:53

Viennese whirls

ArseInTheCoOpWindow · 25/01/2021 14:56

Is nipping to Tesco Metro for a crate of shortbread fingers an essential journey?

I really need some now😱

EssentiallyDelighted · 25/01/2021 15:04

Yes to Deans, its the best shop bought one I've found.

ooh, that's fairly new then, is it? I'll be back visiting as soon as Nicola opens the borders, so looks like I'll need an extra suitcase Wink
RaraRachael · 25/01/2021 22:46

Dean's have s shop af their factory in Huntly that sells very cheap seconds and shortbread crumbs that make an amazing base for cheesecakes etc.

ThePug · 25/01/2021 23:21

We get the Aldi ones which are goooood (and cheap)!

Ginfordinner · 25/01/2021 23:30

We have to agree to disagree. IMO it is sacrilege to dunk biscuits in any liquid. Isn't the point of a biscuit the crisp, crumbly texture? And who wants biscuit crumbs floating around their tea?

36degrees · 25/01/2021 23:38

The gingerbread flavoured ones in Waitrose over Christmas were incredible, I managed to get the last packet in the shop on two separate visits.

mogtheexcellent · 29/01/2021 09:56

oooh fabulous news!

Sains delivery today and they dont have the petticoat tails again so are subbing with the giant taste the difference selection box of shortbread again.

Happy days.
