Has anyone worn headphones while having dental treatment?

Last time I was at the dentist, I was booked in for a new filling and to replace a filling. A 90 minute appointment.

I am sure the dentist said I could wear headphones if I wanted to. I've never heard of anyone doing this. I tend to overthink things and worry a lot about things others don't!

So, what do you think would be best? over ear noise cancelling headphones or earbud type earphones? Relaxing music? Favourite tunes? Podcast?

Also, does it help? Thanks Smile

I did. I think I had music on

My son did - he hates the dentist and I had read about it somewhere so asked. It really helped him. He wore his earbuds and listened to music he likes.

Yes me! I have loud rock so I can’t hear any dentist type noise, and have my eyes closed, he taps my arm if he need to talk to me, has made going much more bearable...

Yes I do! I had to have four teeth took out over two visits and several fillings and u hate the dentist. Just before treatnent started I said I'm just going to put my headphones in. I had it very loud and he signed to me if he wanted to tell me something. I downloaded enough podcasts to keep me going so they automatically played, I also had them loud. I chose podcasts so I'd focus well on something (I had women's hour ones)
Good luck!

My dentist has a tv screen on the ceiling that you can watch while you lie back and headphones he provides for the sound. It's great to take your mind off what's going on. I say go for it! Maybe ear buds might be in the way for the dentist if they have the cord that drops down? Maybe headphones are best?

Yes.
I have lots of anxiety about dentists.
I usually wear one head phone so I can hear the dentist talking/or have that one half in

I listen to music. I tend to choose music that's fast and I would typically sing along to. This means I can focus on completing the lyrics, counting the beat rather than what's going on to my face. It also helps me have a sense of time, eg just get to the end of this song, ok now this song.

I did have a minor mishap where I always used the same album and when it then came on my ipod after in a shop I couldn't figure out why I had a sudden flood of anxiety.

Yes. When I had my wisdom teeth out years ago I had my old Sony Walkman with me. I listened to a Pink Floyd concert while the dentist and his assistant did their stuff.
