What's lurking at the back of your freezer, will never get eaten but you can't bring yourself to sling it?

Inspired by the batch-cooking thread.

So I'll start...two big, whole sea bass completely with eyes, bones and scales , they've been in there for months and neither DH nor I feels up to the task of preparing them. Every time we inventory the freezer, they're there glaring reproachfully at us. They're too expensive to throw out, and we would actually enjoy them if we did something with them. So there they stay.

What's living rent-free in your freezer?

A triple chocolate cheesecake I bought two Christmases ago from Aldi. I really need to get round to chucking it

WhatWouldPhyllisCraneDo · 24/01/2021 18:59

A really spicy chicken wing. Just the one.

Pandoraslastchance · 24/01/2021 19:00

A bag of quorn mince and a bag of frozen sliced peppers.

Dunno why but I just cannot chuck them.

Two pheasants.

Every so often I look up a recipe and never get any further than reading, then a shudder, and they remain in their frosty limbo

Deathraystare · 24/01/2021 19:01

I am alright with freezer stuff because I only have one shelf (the bottom one). However I am terrible with the fridge with fresh veg in particular. I eyed up some broccoli yesterday and thought nope use it tomorrow. It is going yellow...

TroysMammy · 24/01/2021 19:01

Chillies. I grew them but I don't like too spicy. They are different varieties and all jumbled up. I don't want to play chilli roulette.

Some green veggie sausages. They've got mint in them and taste vile but for some reason they're still sitting there.

Narniacalling · 24/01/2021 19:09

The pheasants you could list make a really good stock from! I did that found some random small birds and turned it into stock.

Whoateallthechocolate · 24/01/2021 19:10

We have some quorn mince. I bought it at least 4 years ago. I still have some (decanted) ice cube trays of purée for the DC. They are now 11 & 8. Yes, years. Last time I had a good sort out, I just couldn't bring myself to chuck it out!

olderthanyouthink · 24/01/2021 19:17

Breast milk - some of it is 2 years old, was saving for chicken pox but that ship sailed without much fuss.

BlowDryRat · 24/01/2021 19:17

A side of salmon I bought for Christmas 2019, even though I wasn't hosting and DH doesn't like salmon.

sadpapercourtesan · 24/01/2021 19:33

@BlowDryRat I'll swap you the salmon for these bloody sea bass!

Some pork mince DH bought.I am veggie and do all the cooking. I can just about cope with cooking meat sausages/meatballs/chicken goujons but draw the line at mince. I get fed up with him filling the freezer with meat he never bloody cooks. It's still there over a year later and if I mention chucking it I get assured that he has plans for it. I might just chuck it the night before bin day this week and see if he ever mentions it again?

AudTheDeepAndCrispAndEven · 24/01/2021 19:38

Oh, and some frozen pomegranate that was on special in Iceland last spring. Pomegranate does NOT freeze well, the pips go all chewy and it has little taste. Probably why it was cheap to start with.

WhatWouldPhyllisCraneDo · 24/01/2021 19:45

Oh just remembered I also have 4 rainbow trout and a tuna steak. It seems a waste to put them in fish pie but I don't know what else to do with them. I did tuna steaks for dinner one day, but the dc didn't think they were that great.

scrivette · 24/01/2021 19:47

Breast milk, it's been there for a couple of years but I just can't be bothered to take it out and clean the bottles.

H1978 · 24/01/2021 19:48

Linda Macartney mozzarella burgers. Love the sound of them when I bought them but just can’t bring myself to eat them. I’m always sceptical about meat alternatives.

poopyface · 24/01/2021 19:49

Quorn “chicken” pieces and a bag of edamame beans

devildeepbluesea · 24/01/2021 19:52

Homemade wild garlic pesto. We had some when it was fresh, it tasted ok but a bit weird so haven't had any more. But I MADE it, so I really don't want to bin it.

IncyWincyGrownUp · 24/01/2021 19:54

Some salmon fillets. I dislike the stuff, and I don’t like the smell of it defrosting. Should have been cooked when bought fresh, but these things don’t always go to plan.

bearlyactive · 24/01/2021 19:55

A final, solitary portion of beef stew that I made in the slow cooker a while ago. It was disgusting, and I'd made a double batch so I had tons for the freezer. Can't bring myself to eat it, or chuck it even though I need the tub back!

Twinkie01 · 24/01/2021 19:55

Nothing. We do a monthly freezer inventory (after finding some really grim stuff in there a few years ago) and use everything up.

WhatWouldPhyllisCraneDo · 24/01/2021 19:55

@AudTheDeepAndCrispAndEven I found the pomegranate was ok stirred into porridge/semolina.

@H1978 they are one of the best meat alternatives! I first had them when I got drunk with a veggie friend and he didn't live near a kebab shop so he cooked us those at 3am Grin
