Where do your small appliances live?

AintNobodyHereButUsChickens · 24/01/2021 13:23

Like toaster, stand mixer, slow cooker etc?
The only appliance we have out is the kettle. The toaster, mixer, instant pot etc all live tucked away in cupboards. Even the microwave has its own shelf in the stair cupboard! The tea and sugar canisters live in a drawer, squash goes in the wine rack.

My friend thinks we're weird for hiding everything away but I like it being tidy. Well, not really that tidy because the kids still manage to cover the worktops in their random bits of crap Grin

I onlÅ· have the toaster and kettle out, but I don't really eat bread anymore. so I might get rid of the toaster. I put my slow cooker, processors etc into deep drawers too. I don't want the worktop all cluttered up with them. I keep tea bags in a drawer and have open shelves for some mugs, glasses, teapots and mocha pots. It's a bit decorative, not minimalist.

On the worktops are coffee machine, air fryer, toaster and tea, coffee, sugar canisters.

We don’t have a kettle as we have a boiling hot tap.

Microwave is built in.

Food mixers are in a cupboard.

We have toaster, kettle, bread bin, microwave and fruit bowl one side.
Other side has chopping board block and wire chicken for eggs.

We use our toaster and microwave regularly so they’re better left out. Tea coffee and sugar canisters in cupboard.

midsomermurderess · 24/01/2021 15:45

Oh, and my microwave fits in a cupboard.

TransplantedScouser · 24/01/2021 15:51

We don’t have a toaster or a kettle (Quooker tap)

Most other things are in the cupboard except my thermomix which I use daily and my vacuum sealer.

My

Pressure cooker
Slow cooker
Bread maker
Fat fryer
Toastie maker
Pancake maker
Ice cream machine
Kenwood chef
Meat slicer

Are all in cupboards and hardly ever get used as it’s easier to do without than get them out of the cupboard and set up

I think DH would love the thermomix to go away as well but I pointed out it was a lot of money to spend to have it sit in the cupboard

TransplantedScouser · 24/01/2021 15:51

The microwave is built in and the only other thing is a bean to cup coffee machine

minipie · 24/01/2021 15:54

Nothing lives out except our rather nice looking coffee machine, and a caddy with the washing up brush in it.

Kettle - we have a boiling water tap so no kettle
Toaster - in larder cupboard (door folds back when toaster in use)
Bread - next to toaster
Microwave - also in larder, built in
Stick blender and electric whisk - live in a box in the larder
Tea and coffee - drawer in the larder

I don’t own other small appliances but if I had a food processor, stand mixer, breadmaker or slow cooker/instant pot they would live in the larder, cupboard above the fridge, or the utility room. Hate hate hate clutter.

Ha, this is why I don’t have any of these items!

Angel2702 · 24/01/2021 15:56

Don’t have a mixer or slow cooker. Microwave, kettle, toaster, coffee machine, bread bin, fruit bowl, food bin, drinks canisters take up the sides. We don’t have cupboard space to put them anywhere else. We only have 5 cupboards so 2 are for food, one cups, glasses, one for plates, bowls and one for saucepans and baking dishes. It’s not about being tidy or untidy it’s about having the space or not.

happymummy12345 · 24/01/2021 16:06

On our sides we have: kettle, toaster, microwave, tea coffee and 2 sugar canisters (1 is proper sugar and the other is sweetener), 2 utensils pots, bread bin, biscuit barrel, kitchen roll holder, iPod/ CD player, and 2 water filter jugs.
We've always had all that on the side. All along the walls so it's not in the way at all. (We used to have the steriliser when my son was a baby as well).

EssentiallyDelighted · 24/01/2021 16:14

Toaster, kettle, stand mixer, velvetiser and coffee grinder are all out because they are used most days. Microwave is also on a counter. Instant pot, smoothie maker are kept in cupboards because they don't get used as much.

I don't like bare kitchen surfaces, I like seeing them on the counter, makes the kitchen look more homely. Even if I had masses of storage space I'd keep all these appliances out. I don't like the appearance of integrated appliances either, all freestanding here.

EileenGC · 24/01/2021 16:26

Toaster, kettle, salt, pepper and oil, big box of tea and the water filter jug live on worktops.

I use the toaster way too often for it to live in a cupboard Grin

BIWI · 24/01/2021 16:30

All I have out is the SodaStream, the toaster and my food processor. All things that get used most days.

No kettle - we have a Quooker.

Slow cooker, ice-cream maker, spice grinder and electric hand whisk all in a cupboard (but easily reached/to hand)

Microwave is a combination oven and microwave, built-in above the oven.

Only other things out are a glass bowl of lemons and limes, and another ceramic bowl of onions/shallots and garlic, oh, and salt/pepper and a lovely ceramic olive oil bottle.

We have what is pompously known as an 'appliance garage'. This is a tall cupboard which sits on the worktop and has plug sockets at the back. It has a roller shutter door to open when you are using the appliance and then close when you've finished. As it's on the worktop if you wanted to use it for a kettle you would need to just pull it out slightly to let the steam escape. Our toaster and kettle are on the worktop as they are used many times a day but I use it for a few other small appliances that I use regularly such as a grinder and milk frother.
I understand this isnt something that you can just add into an existing kitchen but would recommend for anyone planning a new one.

Hiding everything is just weird. My kettle, toaster and microwave are out. As well as other thing like utensil pot, lamp, egg box, bread bin.

Hiding everything is clinical.

fussychica · 24/01/2021 17:06

Just the kettle out. Microwave built in. Toaster, slow cooker etc in cupboards. Toaster, which matches kettle, used to be out but rarely eat bread these days so put it away.
Love an uncluttered worktop especially as I have a small kitchen.

caringcarer · 24/01/2021 17:37

In kitchen 2 microwaves, kettle, toaster. Toasted Panini press, stand mixer under stairs cupboard. In kitchen drawer stick blender, in utility air fryer. In dining room bean to cup coffee machine. Lots of other devices such as pizza oven, wrap maker, ice cream maker, bread maker and hostess hot trays used at Christmas, all stored in conservatory on shelves.

BrassicaBabe · 24/01/2021 17:41

@Mumski45 I want an appliance garage!!

donewithitalltodayandxmas · 24/01/2021 19:24

Toaster and small georgw foreman out and microwave kettle , cannisters etc as don't have enough room in cupboards for them all . Would love nothing but kettle on side but not an option for many I know.
