These Mumsnet habits - wtf?

Since being on Mumsnet, ive noticed a couple of things that I find odd! Not sure if I’m missing something or I don’t use it enough to get as frustrated or angry as these posters but...

  1. People seem to love calling someone out if their ‘story’ doesn’t add up completely. I mean a tiny detail. Surely it’s obvious people want to protect their identity? Does it matter if they referred to a blue jacket then to a red one (for instance) later in the thread?!
  1. People who love to rush in and say ‘you’ve posted this before, you’ll get the same responses’ Hmm actually the poster may have a new part to tell or want to see if the thread will be read by more people this time or may simply want more support. If you don’t like a repeated thread surely just hide it or don’t comment?!
  1. Calling people a journalist if they ask a question but don’t specifically share their own view (maybe because, you know, they’re looking for other opinions.) firstly, the likelihood is a journalist would be wise to this and therefore put an opinion forward to stop people suspecting they were said journalist and secondly, for fucks sake just don’t comment if you don’t like the OP’s tone?
  1. People posting saying they will report the thread, usually on a completely irrational basis as they’ve read something they don’t agree with. Erm get a hobby?

I’ve actually never had these things happen to me (yet!) but I always think it must be hurtful to the OP.

I’ve only been here two years and posted maybe 4 times so perhaps I am missing something!

I'm relatively new to Mumsnet, and have found, on the whole, that people are lovely, supportive and wise! I know what you mean about the condescending, patronising commentators though. Some people are so up themselves. Like you said, get a life. I think you will always find this though, on such a forum.
I haven't posted anything yet, but if I did, I would ignore the obvious digs or nasty comments, and just take on board the helpful advice.
