111 is great but it's bloody hard work sometimes!

DP is on chemo, yesterday he nicked his thumb on a knife, not even deep enough to bleed. Last night his thumb swelled up, today it is purple and the purple is spreading, and his thumb is colder than the other digits on that hand. He called oncology who said he needs to be seen but to call 111 as oncology is an hour away. He first called 111 at midday, he has spoken to 5 different people (including one video chat) and they all come to the same conclusion, he needs to be seen. Today. Fingers crossed the next person who calls back actually calls with an appointment!

It's refreshing to hear someone say "111 is great".

I've found the service to be monumentally shite when I've had to use it.

Hope you get a call back with an appointment soon!

To be fair, the few times we have used them they have been good. It is just this time, I think the fact that the area is cold to the touch is confusing them, I am pretty sure it is cellulitis but what do I know! I wish they would just see him, the fact that he is on chemo worries me and is the reason they are hesitating in getting him in.

Have you tried your GP out of hours?

bloodywhitecat · 23/01/2021 15:12

No, he was told to call 111 but the oncology hotline so that's what he did.
