My child is obsessed with the vacuum cleaner

Seriously, my hallway has the cleanest vacuumed spot ever!!! Ds loves getting out John out (a green Henry) and vacuuming the same spot daily.
We got him his own children's Henry for Christmas, hoping he'll play with that. Ota quiter and smaller but no he would rather have John out. He happily pushes him up and down the hallway, will plug him in (supervised by dh or myself) turns him on and vacuums the floor. He then pulls the entire plug cable out and winds it back in. It honestly keeps him busy for hours!

Does anyone else possess a child who would rather play with a cleaning product than toys, or is mine broke???

Yes. Cultivate it and in a few years he’ll be able to reliably vacuum the whole downstairs Grin

Let him have at it, I say. Show him how to vac other areas, too. It's a good life skill to nurture.

My oldest loved the hoover. He called her "Oova" and every chance he got he would go sit in the cleaning cupboard with his arm around her, chatting away to her.

I don’t need have a child with a hoover obsession however I am willing to adopt yours!

Both my boys had toy Dyson hoovers at 1 or 2. They loved to copy me cleaning up. I'd often find my eldest, wipe in hand, cleaning a door frame or cupboard 🤣

Missmonkeypenny · 21/01/2021 18:41

I have one too! DS has had a fond attatchment to the hoover since about 3 months old. He's now recently one and loves nothing more than to follow me around whilst I'm hoovering or poke it when it's off going ' brrrrrrrrr'. Tried a toy one and it didn't do it for him!

A vast contrast to DD who was petrified of them!

MaMaD1990 · 21/01/2021 18:45

Absolutely. When I'm desperate for some quiet time I crack out the broom!

sqirrelfriends · 21/01/2021 18:50

Yeah, DS loves the vacuum. Every time I get it out he steals it so I either have to wait for his dad to take him out or just use the (crappy) cordless one.

Mine is 7 now, and doesn't do a bad job vacuuming, plus she thinks it's a treat if I let her Grin On the down side, she is obsessed with spray furniture polish which I have to keep locked away because she will easily spray half a can in one session, and everything is left slimy and streaky because she only likes the spraying, not the actual polishing.
