Did anyone watch this? I’ve watched it a few times (I do a lot of rewatching programs as a coping mechanism as I know what’s coming).

Lots of things went over my head at first, like why Esty couldn’t take a plastic bag with her in the beginning etc but it made me google and learn a lot.

The actress who plays Esty was also in Zookeepers wife. She’s so beautifully captivating

I stopped it to do some google research several times. I thought it was excellent. For me, a fascinating insight into a culture I know very little about.

Yes, it was good wasn't it? The dynamic between her and her husband was really well acted I thought. The hope, then the bewildering hopelessness.

I really enjoyed it, super interesting and yeah had me googling stuff

If you liked Unorthodox, try Schtisel, which is also on Netflix.

hmoody510 · 21/01/2021 15:35

I've not seen it but I've heard great things about it! Definitely need to give it a go

spiderlight · 21/01/2021 15:39

Fantastic, wasn't it? Such an eye-opener.

TheVanguardSix · 21/01/2021 15:39

The book was way better. I highly recommend reading it!
I found the show itself a bit ‘lite’ but good.
OP you’d probably like Shtisel (I absolutely loved this series and can’t wait for the next season).

TheVanguardSix · 21/01/2021 15:40

Oh and Shira Haas is in Shtisel as well.

Mischance · 21/01/2021 15:42

I enjoyed it. And I have just got the book too on kindle.

DPotter · 21/01/2021 15:51

I thought it was brilliant. will look out for the book

purpledagger · 21/01/2021 15:52

I love Shtisel, it's a great show.

LemonBreeland · 21/01/2021 15:52

I loved it, and Schtisel has been on my list for a while, but never started it. It's because I need to watch properly to read the subtitles.

KnotKnot · 21/01/2021 17:00

I really really enjoyed it. I'll try check out Shtisel too!

I loved unorthodox and went on to do a lot of googling, and ended up watching a documentary about the hassidic Jews in Manchester. I think it was called Strictly Kosher. That was really interesting too.

RainySaturday · 21/01/2021 17:13

I loved it and ended up watching Strictly Kosher, a documentary about Manchester's hasidic Jew community. It was fascinating.

emmetgirl · 21/01/2021 17:13

Fantastic series

takingwhatineed · 21/01/2021 17:15

I thought it was great too. Another vote for schtsel too.

Cactusowl · 21/01/2021 17:16

I really enjoyed it, was one of my favourites last year. I watched One of us afterwards which was interesting.

The eruv was down so she couldn’t go out carrying a bag. One of the many (strange to us) rules they had to abide by.
