Bloody insomnia

I've been trying to sleep since 11:30pm. Every time I've stated to nod off I've been woken feeling like I e been startled, I've been getting into a hot sweat and cannot got to bloody sleep. This happens maybe once a week l/fortnight. I've tried sleeping on the sofa, tried sleeping in bed bit DP is snoring and twitching.

I've now decided to just lay on the sofa and watch the news and not even attempt to sleep.

I can’t sleep tonight OP either and also watching the news hoping to bore myself to sleep on the sofa x

marriednotdead · 21/01/2021 02:04

You have my sympathy, it’s infuriating.

Lots to watch with the inauguration I suppose...

Been trying to get to sleep since 10.30: DP switching between snoring and talking in his sleep, not an everyday habit but bad tonight. I’ve sent him a voice note of the racket, not that he’d deny it!
Too tired to get up and won’t be comfortable enough on the couch.

His alarm goes off at 5am and the change in temperature when he gets out of bed triggers a sneezing fit. Every. Morning.m

I love him dearly but there may be a death Grin

Yeah, I've been struggling to sleep. No real reason. I've got through a lot of Netflix.

I haven't slept for about 3 months. It's rather debilitating!

Aquamarine1029 · 21/01/2021 02:12

Could it be peri-menopause? Insomnia is one of the most common symptoms.

marriednotdead · 21/01/2021 02:22

@Aquamarine1029

Could it be peri-menopause? Insomnia is one of the most common symptoms.
Not in my case, through the other side of that and on HRT.

Have fibromyalgia though and since having Covid, my MH and body temperature can be very erratic. Only trouble is I can’t tell which is causing it, my ‘normal’ is very skewed!

73kittycat73 · 21/01/2021 03:22

Still awake here too. Sad Once I can get to sleep I'm fine, it's just dropping off that's the problem. Might be tonight though as I have two extra owrries:
I have to go to my local shop and get some electric on my key. I have no cash but don't know if I can just pay with my card, or if I'll have to get cash back first and then pay for the electric. Doesn't sound too hard but I'm agoraphobic. I'll have to leave my front door open too (Mum will be in.) otherwise I panic to much and can't do it. It's very windy here and I'm already worrying that the door will blow shut.
Reason number 2, I have bought my mum a second hand laptop for her birthday. Obviously on first go I'll have to sign in to all the sites she goes on to get it ready. However, she hasn't kept a log of all her passwords. I also think they have her old mobile number on (Sometimes they send codes to verify it's you if you ask for a pass word reminder, or try and change any personal information, like phone numbers.). I'm sure she has her old phone but it will need charging, and then she'll have to find the lead... It's all going round and round in my head...busy, busy, busy. No wonder I can't sleep.

mummyof2ds · 21/01/2021 03:39

Me and my 5yr ds are up. He has decided getting up at 2 o'clock is a good time to get up. I am glad it's only every once in a while

2020canfuckitself · 21/01/2021 03:41

I'm over thinking. I think that's why I can't sleep

MrsDoctorDear · 21/01/2021 03:47

I manage a few hours sleep then by 2am I'm wide awake, every night.
I just read until it's time to get up. I think mine could be peri-menopause though.

Bluearsedfly36 · 21/01/2021 03:56

Wide awake too, been ill with head pressure, neck pain and vertigo for months and had to travel 70 miles for my much needed mri. The car journey has finished me off. Had horrendous pain and vertigo since I got home. Everytime I close my eyes I feel like the bed is tipping. It's my daughter's birthday today too.

Amdone123 · 21/01/2021 04:00

This is interesting, about the peri menopause. I'm 53. I had really bad hot night flushes July time last year. Took black cohosh. Flushes went but suffered a side effect so stopped taking them. Not had any flushes since. But since same time last year, I've had insomnia. I didn't know it was a symptom.
I fall asleep about 8pm ( always have done), and wake about 5.30am which is fine. Most nights though I am waking 2am ish. I've stopped getting frustrated - no point. Not much to worry about, and if I do, I tend to write it down.

Amdone123 · 21/01/2021 04:03

Sorry to hear about the pain you are going through. Hope it gets better x

MrsDoctorDear · 21/01/2021 04:07

Yes @Amdone123 it's frustrating but what can we do about it? I sleep 10-2.
I try and get a nap in during the day which is supposed to be a bad idea.
I've heard magnesium helps so could look into that.
Honestly, if you looked at the times on my posting history you would think I lived in AustraliaGrin

Amdone123 · 21/01/2021 04:11

@MrsDoctorDear.....that made me laugh x

soggyandwet · 21/01/2021 04:14

I can't sleep, too many things to worry about. Ds, dh, dm and du plus work are all keeping me awake with different worries.

73kittycat73 · 21/01/2021 04:37

Quite a few of us tonight. I'm not even going to try and go back to bed. I only wind up fustraited. I hope you all manage some sleep tonight. Flowers

73kittycat73 · 21/01/2021 04:38

*frustrated

Wincarnis · 21/01/2021 04:51

I can get to sleep, but cannot stay asleep. Has been happening for months. Permanently tired. Netflix & prime video being used frequently! Strong winds and heavy rain not helping tonight.

jammyredroo · 21/01/2021 09:15

I fell asleep about ten minutes after writing my post. I think my symptoms are peri even though my doc says they aren't and I've had bloods done. I've woken up with raging anxiety I feel like I've had it all night!

LegendDairy · 21/01/2021 10:23

That startled feeling is a hypnic jerk. It happens when you get a muscle twitch when you're almost asleep but not quite there.

movingonup20 · 21/01/2021 10:34

Went through this for 3 years but much better now. My solution? Well exh left me, met a new dp and getting a lot more nocturnal exercise Grin

Actually I suspect it's the mirena coil that has made the difference, I wasn't on bc before meeting dp as exh had the snip years ago. I had all the symptoms of peri menopause but they have subsided now, nurse practitioner suggested they might when she prescribed the mirena, she's seen it in other patients.

jammyredroo · 21/01/2021 10:50

I went on for at least an hour if not more. It didn't realise there was a name for it!

Since October I've been sleeping really bad. Go through about 10 days of 3/4 hours broken sleep then I have about a week of sleeping better( but still crap by most people's standards) then it starts again. I either having trouble going to sleep - takes me about 3 hours to drop off. Or about an hour to drop off then waking constantly on and off. Or a long while to drop off a block of 4 hours or so then waking up at 4 is for the day. It's driving me nuts. Ive tried all sorts. Resorted to night nurse last night wich helped and feel a lot better today - not a long term solution though. Hadn't thought about peri menopause - I'm 41 . Could it be that?

Bluearsedfly36 · 21/01/2021 14:08

Could I just ask, when I'm having my period I get weird cold sensations on my body starts at the start of my period and lasts a few days after. Also my periods have become heavier and shorter. I asked my gp about the possibility of peri and was informed I'm far too young. I'm 38. I've got a lot of medical stuff going on atm but find it strange that this only happens around the time of my period.
