Help with vaginal dryness! (and soreness and itching)

This has been going on for a year now and I am sick of it. GP have given me ostrogen creams, thrush treatment and fungal treatment. It sometimes gets better for a bit but then gets worse again.

I'm fucking sick of it. I'm 47 so guess it could be menopause coming but GP says I have no other signs of this.

I am really sore and dry right now!

Can anyone recommend a good vaginal moisturiser or other treatment? Or any suggestions as to what might be going on?

If it were menopause related the oestrogen creams should have corrected it as they are a type of HRT. The only type actually that have no added cancer risk.

I’d still ask for a test for diabetes or try cutting down the sugar in your diet.

The amount of oestrogen in Ovestin and vagifem is minuscule compared to systemic HRT. Most women with severe vaginal atrophy need both localised HRT and systemic HRT to achieve a real difference to their symptoms. However, women who cannot normally take HRT (and there aren’t many reasons women cannot, even women who’ve had breast cancer before can now take certain forms of HRT) can still take / use internal oestrogen because the levels of oestrogen in it are so low.

The cancer risks with newer forms of HRT are almost non existent in women under 50 and the long term benefits of HRT balance these out in older women - lower risk of bowel cancer, lower risk of heart disease and lower risk of bone density issues.

@LoveACockatoo what brand are they? They sound like they do the job! Another one here on Utrogestan and Ovestin (plus thyroxine, Vat D and K ) Hope it improves

They are called yes! they also water based lubricants but I find the oil one better. They do a trial selection pack which I got at first

Sounds like vaginal atrophy could be the cause..mine was so bad the gynae couldn't do my last smear and I had to go back after a month treatment with pessaries.
If you think you may be menopausal, there is a brilliant poster on the menopause board called Jingle something who gives excellent advice.

I'm perimenopausal and find the yes! vaginal moisturiser (and the lube before sex) really good. I only need to use the moisturiser a couple of times a week, but if I forget then I start to get what feels like the start of thrush.

Thanks everyone! I am going to call the GP Monday to discuss armed with the information from here! Smile
