Would anyone be able to tell me the name of this gemstone?

Between 4 of us, 2 say it's purple the other 2 say blue.

Not sure if you can tell from the photo.

Please ignore my gnarled fingers, really shouldn't have cancelled the last beautician appointment.

I think it's tanzanite? It's a beautiful ring.

Yes, my immediate thought was tanzanite.

HelpMeh · 20/01/2021 14:23

Yep, looks like tanzanite.

bendmeoverbackwards · 20/01/2021 14:24

Yes tanzanite, my favourite gemstone. The colour is stunning.

bluecheesefan · 20/01/2021 14:25

Could be tanzanite, could be cubic zirconia coloured to look like tanzanite. It is a very bright colour, which is what makes me wonder.

Interesting, thank you all so far.

I'm one of the two of us that said purple rather than blue, it doesn't look as dark blue as that photo from PP.

If you google tanzanite there are some examples that look more like yours.

ThanksItHasPockets · 20/01/2021 15:05

Tanzanite is notorious for looking different under different lights and from different angles.

Bluesheep8 · 20/01/2021 15:09

Yes its tanzanite. iirc its only mined in one place in the world - Tanzania, hence the name. Limited supply has a positive impact on price due to rarity....

Meandyouandyouandme · 20/01/2021 22:59

My first thought was amethyst, I’ve never heard of tanzanite.
