How long does your toaster last?

Mine is slowly needing longer and longer to toast properly and I keep thinking it's on its last legs but then it carries on regardless.

So, was it actually worth the money or would a normal one have lasted just as long?

Ours is about 16 years old (a classic dualit) but we had 2 before it that went pop when they were not long out of warranty.

We've had our current one since a kitchen renovation in 2008 so going on for 13 years and it's still going ok.

Our Dualit dates from the mid 1990s I think. It has had a couple of new elements in that time.

Unless you have a selection of toasters to compare you never really know. We have had a 4 slice Dualit (catering type) for 20 years daily use, one element replaced. But they are designed for heavy use.

Our last one just had to be replaced. I think it was about 7 years old (it started tripping the electrics). That was just a cheap Tesco one. DH splurged on a Breville this time. It’s definitely faster at toasting.

Dualit toaster has been going for 19 years so far.

Our Breville 4 slice one was and engagement present from my DGP so it must be nearly 20 years old. The matching kettle is long since dead.

Ours is a Dualit and about 20 years old. We’ve replaced a couple of elements but it’s as new still.

Ours is an IKEA (I think) toaster that we were given in 2001 by a friend who was moving country. Works just fine.

Ours has no branding. Probably from Sainsburys. We brought it from our last house six years ago. We'd already had it a couple of years by then and our last place was a busy B&B so it's certainly washed its face.

I wouldn't say it's going strong but it is going.

Kettles however...

Got our 3 slot ( 2 normal and a wide cage slot) Dualit in 1995. It has had 2 new elements and a clockwork timer replacement in that time. Still looks great and works well.

We've had several toasters over the years. We do very well for large appliances where the average lifespan can be measured in decades not years, but seem to go through an alarming amount of kettles, toasters and microwaves, where they all seem a bit crap, and need replacing in around 5 years.

Current toaster is a Dualit (not the old school clockwork one, but a more modern one that is admittedly all style and not so much substance, because it's still a bit crap as a toaster). But it's only a year old so I can't say anything about the longevity yet.

If we hadn't got it on a very good Costco deal (£100 for the toaster and the kettle) I wouldn't have paid so much, as it doesn't seem that much better than previous toasters and hardly any of them seem to toast evenly on both sides or even correctly accept a slice of bread. FFS, they have one job and are not particularly complicated pieces of equipment.

Ours just died after 8 yrs of heavy use, pototo waffles and toast.
Bought a dulit (not the clasdic)
Its just lovely...i love we can pop up to check the toast without cancelling the cycle.
Also only needs 2 pops for waffles

You need to know how many slices it has toasted not length of time since you bought it. I know it's stating the bleeding obvious but using it every day for 5 years doesn't make it comparable with a 5 year old toaster that's used once a week. In toaster years it would be 35 Grin

Ex bought it second hand off a mate. He had the toaster before I first visited. It is probably about 20 years old or more.

My parents have a 20yo Dualit. After it survived my DBs pop tart fire of 2009, I’ve decided it’s indestructible!

My Dualit is from 1997. It's had a few replacement elements in that time (4 maybe?)

Last two toasters have been Asda/Tesco - £5ish? Last at least 5 years each probably longer.

Re a pp: I can't imagine IKEA ever mad toasters...(Goes off to Google).

Ours is a Russell Hobbs 4 slice toaster. We bought it when we moved in here so it’s 11 years old.

Previous toasters only lasted a few years, usually due to misuse and things melting into them. The current one is from around 2014.
