Chest pain caused by...?

SatsumaFan · 19/01/2021 18:22

Has anyone ever had a weird kinda stitch pain in the middle of their chest, between their breasts? It hurts when I try to take a deep breath, sneeze, or round my shoulders/extend my arms to reach something.

I think it's caused by pulling something in the top of my back, so trying to do gentle exercises to ease it.

If you've had this before, do you have any tips on getting rid of it please? Had it for a couple of nights now. Thanks.

Gallstones?

Oneearringlost · 19/01/2021 18:25

Sounds like Costochondritis.
Don't worry about it.

SatsumaFan · 19/01/2021 18:26

It's not severe pain. No other symptoms.

Sorry, that sounded dismissive, I didnt mean it too.

SatsumaFan · 19/01/2021 18:27

That's ok @Oneearringlost I didn't think it was dismissive. Thanks for replying.

Hmm. Could be this I guess

I've had a family member have it before tho and she thought she was having a heart attack so went straight to hospital.

This feels more like I've pulled a muscle somewhere and achey/pressure rather than acute pain.

Ibuprofen will help if it's costochondritis. Otherwise you could try aspirin. DD had chest pain after catching Covid last year and aspirin was the only thing that would ease it.

Blerg · 19/01/2021 18:57

When I had Covid it felt a bit like that - I had few other symptoms, just headaches.

It might not be that, but worth ruling out / considering.

Perihell · 19/01/2021 19:05

Yes I get this, frightening to start with. Costochondritis, inflammation of the bits between ribs and on sternum.mines worse at night when laying scrunched up on my side.can last days sometimes

SatsumaFan · 19/01/2021 19:42

Thanks all. Would costochondritis be caused by a bad back or posture? Or just be aggravated by it maybe?

Acid

SatsumaFan · 19/01/2021 20:17

Nah not acid. Not an acid type thing. More of a tightening.

I actually have a post on here about chest pain I had, I'm now thinking it was costochondritis! I got up quickly off the settee and the next thing it felt impossible to breathe in... I had to shallow breathe and the pain spread to my arm/shoulder and jaw... I thought it was a heart attack or a blood clot at the time but it went away and I was fine lol x

Sammy1969 · 19/01/2021 20:38

Agree with @SatsumaFan
Had it a few times, occasionally panicked, which made worse! Deep breaths, if trapped wind between lungs, will hurt but disperse. Otherwise, ladies muscular anatomy is complex around our chests, you may have strained a muscle if not trapped a nerve. Seriously, wouldn't worry Smile

SatsumaFan · 19/01/2021 20:38

Oh bless you @Blox123! How long did it take to go away? Did you do anything apart from rest and pain killers?

The ibuprofen has helped quite a bit and I'm gonna try getting some sleep. If it lasts more than a week I'll call my GP.

I've got costochondritis too; the pain comes and goes and is worse if I press between ribs - def worse at the sternum. I thought I had breast cancer as it was more painful under my breast! Worth asking the GP though in case it's not that

Blox123 · 20/01/2021 09:47

It only lasted around 30 minutes for me and I dont know if it's the same for you, but my chest only hurt when I breathed in. If it's costochondritis, it lasts for weeks for some people. Hope you feel better asap, it's not nice at all xx
