My perimenopausal brain has turned to mush, I’m sleeping poorly so always tired, and have some things worrying me so my concentration is shot to pieces and I’m finding it hard to read the usual literary fiction I enjoy!

Please suggest some thrilling books that I will get sucked into and not be able to put down. Well written, ideally, but certainly gripping!

TIA 🙂

I love the Strike series by Robert Galbraith (JK Rowling). A bit gory in places though.

TheFreaksShallInheritTheEarth · 19/01/2021 04:06

Thanks for that. I have no problem with gory, so I’ll look them up!

I love all and everything by Lars Kepler. Swedish noir, proper grim. Start with The Hypnotist and go from there. Enjoy!

SherryPalmer · 19/01/2021 05:09

Not really thrillers but the Wool trilogy from Hugh Howey is very gripping, well written and makes you think a bit without being too onerous to read.

Bearsbearsbears40 · 19/01/2021 05:54

I’m really enjoying Knife Edge by Simon Mayo at the moment.

BalloonSlayer · 19/01/2021 08:27

I recently enjoyed Stephen King's Mr Mercedes.

MrsJBaptiste · 19/01/2021 08:33

Gus McGuire series - Liz Mistry
Nikki Parekh series - Liz Mistry

3 hours by Rosamund Lupton. Incredibly well written imo and I literally couldn't put it down.

Darklingthrush · 19/01/2021 08:38

The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo - I missed it first time round and have just read it - gripped!!

spababe · 19/01/2021 08:41

The Doctor by Lisa Stone - Really enjoyed this book especially as I warmed to the female characters

Clawdy · 19/01/2021 08:42

The Burning Air by Erin Kelly. Got a twist I never saw coming, and I usually spot them half way through!

Reallybadidea · 19/01/2021 08:46

I've just read The Other Passenger by Louise Candlish in 24 hours. Better writing than many thrillers IMO and the ending wasn't what I was expecting. I think it's 99p on kindle at the moment.

Disfordarkchocolate · 19/01/2021 08:46

Kolymsky Hights by Lionel Davidson. I've only listened to the audio book but it was fantastic. Described it sounds far fetched but it was so gripping I believed it all.

VienneseWhirligig · 19/01/2021 08:55

The Lacey Flint series by Sharon Bolton or the Jack Caffery series by Mo Hayder are excellent.

I Let You Go by Clare Macintosh

An absolute belter.

I just finished The Housewarming in 2 days, loved it, couldn't put it down.

Iamblossom · 19/01/2021 09:01

This it's actually free on kindle

Moondust001 · 19/01/2021 09:02

Anything by Donato Carissi - although you'll have to read them in English unless your Italian is good (mine isn't!). It is rare that I read any crime thrillers that I cannot guess the outcome of long before I get there. These left me guessing right to the end. Try The Lost Girls of Rome as a way in.

TheFreaksShallInheritTheEarth · 19/01/2021 09:05

Fantastic, thank you all so much!

I'm really looking forward to investigating all of these on Amazon and buying a few.
Well, it's not like I can do much else at the moment! Hope others find some reading inspiration here Grin
