Just browsing Rightmove earlier, glad I read the full description. Is this even legal?

I think the body is buried here (see pic). It looks newer around the edges.

It wouldn't put me off if the house was a gorgeous thatched cottage or something, but my immediate reaction to hearing he spent his whole life in a house in Leeds that's frankly nothing special is, 'poor sod!'

Actually I'd be more bothered about leasing the garden from the council - sounds like a lot of future hassle.

@Chanandlerbong01

I wondered about renting with the council too - it’s not something I’ve ever heard of
I think it's to do with the grave. As I said above, my guess is that you're not allowed to legally 'sell' a body, so perhaps they were forced to sell that patch of land to the council and rent it back for the grave. I may be way off though
Cailleach1 · 19/01/2021 01:08

In that case I think the house would have to be an absolute bargain. If doing anything with the grave is not in your control (even if you were willing to gamble money on it on top of the house purchase price), then you'd have to be able to overlook it.

Many years ago I rented a house which had been occupied by an old man before me. He died. My neighbours insisted he died in hospital because I asked and they may or may not have been being kind to me by saying no he was not in the house when he passed away. I never really gave it much thought after that and lived there for 10 years.
Knowing a body is buried in a garden would make me say no to buying the house no matter how much of a bargain it may be. No thanks. Just too creepy. What if a family dog went sniffing? Not for me at all.

myhobby · 19/01/2021 01:54

@Maves what? There's nothing on the roof

RubyandPearl · 19/01/2021 04:10

This is no on so many levels. There are not enough nos in the world for this.

What makes it even worse is the fact his family were so desperate to get shot of it they couldnt even wait to clear all of his belongings out. I would hazard a guess that a developer will buy it.

lunalulu · 19/01/2021 07:18

Crikey. Why is everyone being so mean? The guy didn't want to leave his home. Maybe it's uncool/unsavoury etc to you, but I think he deserves a bit of respect. Just feels like a load of hyenas laughing at him and mocking even the naivety etc of whoever is selling the house that they haven't presented a slickly-staged perfect home.

It feels superior and unkind. Sorry to point it out but ...

MaryMashedThem · 19/01/2021 07:25

I can't believe there are 3-bed terrace houses selling for 125k!! Dead body or not, I don't know Leeds but to this Londoner that seems like an unbelievable steal.

GenderApostate19 · 19/01/2021 07:26

Jesus, we still have FiL’s classic car round at the house waiting to sell, good job SiL didn’t think of burying him in the garden!

GenderApostate19 · 19/01/2021 07:29

Many - 3 bed terraces in our village go for £80-£100k. FiL’s house is up for £140k and is a massive 3 bed semi with countryside views, North Midlands, we’ve had no offers and precious few viewings.

I think that’s the veg patch.😃

It says someone is buried there. There’s a new coffin shaped area of dug over grass. It would seem logical that’s where he is.

What I find odd is the people selling it seem to think it’s increased the value of the property, hence the inflated price.

I think as a neighbour I’d feel uneasy watching someone getting buried next door,

Chanandlerbong01 · 19/01/2021 07:59

@MaryMashedThem not all of leeds is that cheap. A 1 bed terraced near me sold for £180k recently and it was tiny, but beautiful!
This particular house is in a not very nice area, I wouldn’t even be tempted if it was on got £60k

Look at the roof...that seriously freaked me out....you see what it is eventually but I honestly went cold.

What is it..?

Chanandlerbong01 · 19/01/2021 08:14

I can’t see what’s on the roof either?

Cosyjimjamsforautumn · 19/01/2021 08:24

It's over priced for that road which is odd considering there's a body in the garden which would put most people off - let alone the garden split with the council.
Its almost like they dont want it to sell.

Our local paper reported a few years back about a couple who found graves from old quaker graveyard in their back garden when digging footings for an extension. Their row of victorian cottages had been built right on top of the graveyard. Last I heard they were going to have to pay for reburial of 4 bodies!

The only thing I can see is above the Leeds thing in the front of the house. A white face looking thing wouldn’t make me go cold though so it probably the wrong thing!

The chimney on the roof at the back of the house looks a bit like an old man in a flat cap
Lochroy · 19/01/2021 08:47

I think the people taking about the roof are taking the mick about the huge Leeds United logo at the top of the front centre WALL.

SoupDragon · 19/01/2021 08:49

I thought it was the chimneys. At a glance they look like something perched on the roof. Once you look they are obviously chimneys though.
Clawdy · 19/01/2021 08:49

Please can someone explain the roof thing!!

Kennypowerstesticle · 19/01/2021 08:54

It’ll be bought by someone to rent out and the unsuspecting tenants will never know their kids are playing on a grave.

Either that or someone will buy it and just dig him up without permission. The family would never know, would they really?

Leonberger · 19/01/2021 09:03

I suppose they had to put it in the listing.

Can you imagine moving in and deciding to put an extension/dig a pond or whatever and finding a dead body.

Not sure it would bother me that much though.

Arobase · 19/01/2021 09:10

I guess the roof thing refers to the fact that in picture 8 it looks a bit like a man standing on the roof.

AllTheWayFromLondonDAMN · 19/01/2021 09:14

@Toddlerteaplease she’s probably under the patio.

Horehound · 19/01/2021 09:19

I think that patch is just the path up to the shed.
