Just browsing Rightmove earlier, glad I read the full description. Is this even legal?

Ah, so thr grave is where we thought, the rectangle of dark earth. Buried in the fish pond though 😱

Whomever inherited the house had to give permission, and it seems likely this was his son, but both him and his mother were in agreement and done what they think is right, but had no idea of rhe impact on the value of the house. In fact the opposite, it seems from the high price tag they thought it increased the value.

SoupDragon · 20/01/2021 14:47

I'm wondering whether he is actually in the front garden, which appears to have been cleared recently. In many ways this would make more sense as adding driveway/paving would prevent accidental digging mishaps and also would mean they could visit from the pavement. The patch of earth in the rear appears to be there in the google earth imagery, although I can't tell how recent that was.

SoupDragon · 20/01/2021 14:48

Xpost with the ladbible article.

leasedaudi3 · 20/01/2021 14:53

@Anystarinthesky wow! Didn't expect him to be in his sixties. The story is a bit depressing to be honest. Him never having "moved out" as an adult etc.

Bluntness100 · 20/01/2021 15:17

Yes. But he had four kids and it doesn’t say if they lived with him. The bedrooms are clearly used as kids rooms, likely for the grandkids.

Can’t believe his parents had eight kids in that house though. That must have been hell of a cramped..

newtothenet · 20/01/2021 15:26

On the photo someone posted previously, is that not the fish pond where he was buried, fenced off in the front garden?

Kennypowerstesticle · 20/01/2021 16:00

I like the part in the article where the family member talks fondly about how he loves the house and wanted it to stay in the family. But they’re selling it! It’s an interesting disconnect between respecting his feelings enough to arrange his burial there but then flogging it.

Anystarinthesky · 20/01/2021 16:08

I see what you mean, the black fenced area?

If you were to bury a relative in the garden, the front garden would be better.

Anystarinthesky · 20/01/2021 16:19

Continued pressed send in error

If you didn't have a back garden which was very long.

@newtothenet

No,,😃

I’m not sure why some folks are so confused by it.

There’s a ruddy great coffin shaped patch in the back garden, it’s freshly dug over earth and it’s even got a fountain beside it.

It’s not the veg patch on the council owned part of the garden, nor is it the on the paved front area. You cannot call it a garden,

It’s very clear where it is! If it walks like a duck and talks like a duck,,😃

Washingmyself · 20/01/2021 16:31

@Bluntness100
But the dark patch is also on the Google aerial view..
I presume the Google pics are not fresh new out this month...
Thought it is very confusing on the Streetview pics with the loads of stuff outside the front door.
It looks like the house was being cleared out at the time Google van went through the road- it could be few months ago- October?
Then yes, the patch and the aerial photo would be new too.

SlopesOff · 20/01/2021 16:31

The burial place used to be a fish pond, si is likely to be by the fountain, so yes, the patch of soil.

Photo of him here.

SoupDragon · 20/01/2021 16:34

There is a potentially fishpond shaped patch of dug up earth but it absolutely isn't coffin shaped 😂😂

SlopesOff · 20/01/2021 16:57

It doesn't have to be coffin shaped. He may have been in a different position, in a shroud.

His name was Michael Jackson. Suggest people read the article, he was a person, not a joke.

It says here it is the back garden he is buried in.

I have read the article, I know he is a person and I've not suggested he is a joke.

Another poster said there was a coffin shaped patch of soil. There isn't.

@Anystarinthesky

My post above this explains it:

Michael's mum, Joan, 84, told the Sun: "Michael loved that house and always said he wanted to be buried there.

"The whole family knew that was what he wanted."

His son, who is also called Michael, said: "Dad was born and lived all his life in the house.

"It seems right that he remains there. He wanted the house to stay in the family."

The handyman, who has four children and six grandchildren, was born in 1958.

His parents raised him and his seven brothers and sisters in the house, but Michael decided to stay in the family home after his mum moved out.

At the end of September last year, Michael tragically choked to death while he was eating, but his final wish was to be buried in the garden of the house he loved so much.

When the family decided to put the house up for sale, the unusual listing caught the attention of the public.

Three-Bedroom House For Sale With Body Of Previous Owner In Garden
published ata day ago
It highlights the fact the body of its previous owner is buried in the garden.

The end terraced property in Middleton near Leeds, West Yorkshire, is being sold for £125,000 ($170,000), provided the new occupant is OK sharing their outdoor space.

Photos on property website Zoopla from seller Manning Stainton show the spacious family home, complete with a large, kitchen, bathroom and living room.

The house also comes complete with its own driveway, solar panels, double glazing and a wood burning stove.

However, anyone looking to do any landscaping might need to contact Leeds City Council, who rent out part of the garden.

While removing the remains would also require an exhumation license granted by the Ministry of Justice.

A description of the property informs potential buyers: "Please be aware this property is being sold by family members as part of a relative's estate.

"It was the deceased's wishes to be buried in the garden as he was born and died in the house. This wish has been carried out and the property will be sold as is."

SlopesOff · 20/01/2021 17:18

Sorry about the stuff in the middle.

Bluntness100 · 20/01/2021 17:23

Honestly, some of these posts, it was very clear it was the back garden. Who has a fish pond in their front gravelled over front “garden”, or builds a veg bed on top of a grave.

He is buried where the fish pond was, which is the dug over earth next to the fountain. In thr back garden. At the edge of what is owned by the property and not the council owned rented element.

SlopesOff · 20/01/2021 17:28

@SoupDragon, I wasn't implying that you did, personally. I just happened to post after your post.

It just seems that people are making this into a joke with no respect for the family or the man himself.

It may not have been a wise decision, they did what he wanted and will have to accept the consequences because even if he is exhumed things will never be acceptably normal. It was his wish, they chose to carry it out rather than feel that they hadn't done what he wanted.

A grave doesn't always have neat edges, probably less likely to be neat if it was previously a fish pond, but it is long rather than round in the photo, It looks as if some of the earth that would normally be a mound on top has been left to the side. Perhaps to top it up when he begins to sink. The shape doesn't really matter, it is his resting place, he is where he wanted to be. Whether he will be able to rest in peace is another matter entirely as the family might be persuaded to have him exhumed and choose a quiet life.

VinylDetective · 20/01/2021 17:39

@HercwasanEnemyofEducation

Why are we all assuming it's a bloke?
We’re not. The description says “he”.
Bluntness100 · 20/01/2021 17:46

Yes, I’d be curious to see how this one panned out. I doubt he will be exhumed any time soon, it’s such an emotive thing to do and so so complex. All family members need to agree, so his mother, his four kids and any siblings. As well as the relevant authorities.

It is highly unusual for a family to bury someone in this manner in this type of property, which it’s why it’s hit the media as it has. No one is trying to make it a joke. Everyone recognises this is a person. But burying someone in this manner, in such a small garden in the former fish pond, is really really unusual. And to then try to sell the house, for more than it’s worth, right after, makes it astounding.

So it’s not about the deceased, the discussion is about the decision making process and the implications of it.

Maybe your world, tableflowers, not mine or that of the people I know, thank goodness.
Well judging by this thread, pretty sure the majority of people in the real work agree with me Wink
