Home printer recommendation?

I’m sick of my HP printer, the inks cost about £25-30 each - Im sure I could get a new printer for the price of a new black and a new colour cartridge. Ive had this printer for years now so thought I’d try compatible/refilled, which I have, twice now, but keep getting “incompatible cartridge” message.

Can anyone recommend a home printer (with scanner/photocopy settings) that has reasonably priced replacement cartridges please? If it can save a scan to a PDF format that would be great (do they do that now?)mine just does JPEG or something which can be bit of a pain for letters.

Thanks in advance.

Bumping for you as I’ve been wondering the same thing. The cost of ink cartridges is ridiculous!

Is there not an HP Instant ink option with your printer? I purchased an HP printer last month and registered for instant ink. You print over a wireless connection and HP send you cartridges as and when you need them. I pay £3.99 a month for up to 100 pages. Anything unused rolls over to the next month and you can review your monthly payments as often as you want in line with your amount of printer.

This is the printer I have. £39.99 from Argos and then I pay £3.99 for the ink to print off 100 sheets a month.

Well my printer is at least 10 years old, possibly more! So no plan for mine, it wasn’t invented then!

I don’t print much at all really, just now and then. (I did recently as I’ve been writing an appeal for some NHS funding but that’s done for the time being, apart from copying the odd letter etc that comes in now to send on to my appeal adviser).

I’m just looking for a reliable brand that’s cheap(ish) to buy and cheap to replace cartridges. HP inks are so expensive and all the compatible cartridges I’ve tried are unreliable.

We have an Epson xp245. I think it was about £30 from argos maybe 4/5 years ago.

I get a full set of black & colour, compatible, cartridges from Ebay for less than a fiver & they do a couple of months printing (normally weekly stuff for my Rainbows/Guides as well as my own and the girls' stuff). Can't complain really, it's connected to all the devices in the house as well as the laptop & prints fine from them too.

And you don’t have any trouble getting your printer to accept the compatibles lucysmam ?

Nope, no problem whatsoever!

A little box pops up on the laptop to tell me it's using compatible ink & ask if I want to carry on but it prints just fine.

Thanks. I’ll look on Argos to see what they have.
