Why do you drink wine, which is your favourite and how much do you drink?

A bit of a random question.

But I’m new to wine (well, I used to drink it at wedding’s and doo’s etc) but lockdown has brought the wine drinker out in me. And I’m doing my own research- because I have nothing better to do.

So, why do you drink wine? (Ie the taste, for the buzz, because it’s alcohol, it’s cheap)

Which do you prefer? (Which brand, type etc)

How much do you drink? (1 bottle a week, a day, 1 glass etc)

Dark Horse or Bogle Chardonnay
1/2 bottle per week
Like the taste

Shoxfordian · 17/01/2021 20:07

I like Sauvignon Blanc the most for white and probably Rioja for red although also Shiraz. I drink because I like the taste and it goes with certain food really well. I drink too much especially lately

StealthPolarBear · 17/01/2021 20:11

I like the taste and the fact it relaxes me. I like pinot nojr type and also shiraz. I drink too much at the moment :(

Market research anyone?

starrynight19 · 17/01/2021 20:19

Like the taste and it’s my treat.
New Zealand Sauvignon
Too much probably but what else is there to do other than work at the minute.

DrinkRefilled · 17/01/2021 20:45

@notsosnug Nope. Just a 35 year old mother of 3 who has started drinking wine in the house wondering if I’m doing to for the right reasons, if I am part of a huge majority or on my own and also to find out if there are any nicer wines to try than the White Grencache I find myself drinking every night.

Is that ok?

I have never tried red wine. I didn’t like the idea of it being unchilled. Maybe I might try it tomorrow 🤔

Red - literally anything but I do prefer shiraz or prosecco. If I open a bottle its gone. I am drinking way too much at present.

VeniVidiWeeWee · 17/01/2021 22:06

Try putting a bottle of red in the fridge and take it out half an hour before drinking. Room temperature is too warm.

KatSueCurry · 17/01/2021 22:10

Red all the way for me. Probably no more than a bottle a week and I like Malbec, Shiraz, Bordeaux. Gives me a bastard of a hangover though so tend to stick to gin most of the time.

As a wine lover, my advice is to quit now before you get in too deep, OP.

RainbowMum11 · 17/01/2021 22:13

White - Sauvignon Blanc from New Zealand is my favourite, but also Pinot Grigio

Red - Rioja or Shiraz generally.

I drink it because I like the taste, although am having a break from alcohol at the moment (not dry January)

RainbowMum11 · 17/01/2021 22:15

White Grenache is too sweet for me, I prefer dry wines - if a rose I go for a Pinot blush.

I do love a Prosecco or Cremante (so) for a treat.

Mojitomogul · 17/01/2021 22:19

I love my red, usually a malbec or pinot noir as I find they go down very nicely!
Usually about 2 glasses every night at the moment, should really have a night off but I do a lot of walking and powerplating to offset it!

WhatTheFoot · 17/01/2021 22:19

My fave is white zinfandel rose, I like pinot grigio but it gives me a headache. Love prosecco too. I usually have one bottle over the course of the weekend.

LBOCS2 · 17/01/2021 22:23

I like the taste. Drinking far too much at the moment.

I like a red or white Rioja, most Shiraz, decent cava or a Cremant (I'm not keen on prosecco as it seems to have become much sweeter and floral over the last few years and I like quite dry wine).

Particular favourites are the Waitrose Australian red or The Guv'nor Tempranillo.

EmmaGrundyForPM · 17/01/2021 22:24

In the summer I love a chilled Pinot Grigio. For red, I really like Malbec.

I'm currently doing Dry January as I was drinking way too much before Christmas. Dh is able to open a bottle and just have a glass or two whereas I found myself necking the whole bottle.

This 🤣🤣🤣

thefirstmrsrochester · 17/01/2021 22:33

Cremant for fizz.
Cotes de Gascogne for white.
Don’t drink red.
Drinking more than I should during lockdown.

OverByYer · 17/01/2021 22:39

Over lockdown I’ve been treating myself to ‘fizzy Friday’
My current favourite is cremant.
Reds I like Malbec or merlot.
White I like a Chardonnay or Viognier.
In the Summer I like Rose , I like Spanish rose best.
I can easily drink a bottle to myself over the course of an evening but only drink Friday / Saturday

Notsosnug · 17/01/2021 22:41

@DrinkRefilled no. Working on the industry I can smell a research question a mile off.

You’re wondering if you drink wine for the right reasons? And what brands people drink? And how much they drink. Okaaaay then.

Thehogfatherstolemycurry · 17/01/2021 22:48

It signifies weekend and a lie in next morning, well OK the lie ins a dream thanks to the menapause but no work next day at least.
So 2 glasses Friday and Saturday nights.
I drink red, has to be full bodied and not acidic.
I like 19 crimes red wine and yellow tail jammy red atm. Tesco most wanted is ok and sainsbury do their own house wine, the merlot is nice.
