Jury service

So I've been called to jury service at a coroner's court. It says on the letter 'dress appropriately'
What would you wear?
I literally have leggings, vest tops, jeans and jumpers. Only smart clothes I have are a couple of going out dresses.
I don't really want to go buy anything specially for it cause it will never be worn again, but think I might have too.
Tia!

It probably means don't wear slogan t-shirts/tops with swearing or inappropriate content.
I'm sure jeans and jumper (not FCUK logo) would be fine.

Pashazade · 17/01/2021 19:18

I'm starting shortly and have decided jeans and a plain jumper will be fine! As long as you're comfy and don't look like you've spent the night in a hedge I think you'll be fine Grin

Jeans and jumpers are ok.

When I did jury service it was so cold in the court room we all wore our coats, scarves and hats!
But they really don’t care, a few times I wore leggings and trainers and it was fine.

DrinkRefilled · 17/01/2021 19:23

I did it not long ago and everyone was dressed casually.
Maybe it just means don’t go with your boobs or cock hanging out Grin

Gobbeldegook · 17/01/2021 19:26

Thank you this is reassuring.

Jeans and plain jumpers are fine, just nothing revealing or offensive logos etc, they can't expect the general public to all have "office" type clothing

I went to Primark and bought two pairs of 'smart' trousers - one grey, one black. Two t-shirts - both black but with a simple print of small white butterflies on one, and light pink birds on the other and a pair of smart black boots. Probably cost me £30 for the lot. Obviously Primark is currently shut but you could get similar in Asda.
I then wore the t-shirts and boots until they wore out (the t shirts I got a good couple of years out of them). The trousers are still in my wardrobe. I don't wear them much as I am not a smart trouser person but they are handy to have there.

Mine was a Coroners Court too. It was slightly less court like than you see on telly - not in a proper court room but the nature of it being coroner's it did seem more 'polite' to be smarter than I normally am.

I've done jury service twice. I turned up on the first day in smart trousers, loafers and a blazer to find everyone else in jeans and jumpers/sweat tops.
I agree with the PP avoid slogans. Be comfortable.

From the gov jury service website:
What to wear
There is no strict dress code and you can wear clothes you’re comfortable in, such as jeans and a t-shirt.

Very casual clothing such as shorts or clothing with inappropriate logos or slogans are not allowed.

Hope this helps. Good luck.
