Here we are again, gaining sequels even more rapidly than the Fast and the Furious...

another so-called conspiracy theory develops truth

many anti lockdowners said the next target for lockdown would be climate change

here it is - suggested by a British politician. The shame of it. And looking at MN, people would support it. Going forward, I have already talked to my sister about ensuring we live walking distance of each other in future because lord knows what's going to happen. No change for now though, it sounds odd but neither of us can really move while mum is still around - where we would go is too far.

anyway, I digress, here it is.

So they say the people who benefit least from the technological advances are the ones that suffer most from climate change. But hey let's lock down and stuff those people a bit more because they are the ones that suffer most from lockdown too

rosettesforjill · 20/01/2021 11:28

I may be wrong, but is he actually saying that we should keep on locking down to prevent climate change, or that we should use the lessons they have learned from imposing lockdowns to encourage different behaviour changes in the population that will help reduce our environmental impact? I am trying to read between the lines of the Express, which I don't trust as far as I could throw it (and I got a U in PE at school).

Climate change worries me much more than Covid.

the climate has been changing forever

I had an ex-friend say to me "but look at the floods in xx country, you can't say you aren't worried about climate change".

When I pointed out that my great grandparents home was washed away in a flood in that place in the previous century, that my parents and grandparents remember several floods there, he wasn't happy.

but they never are when they like to pretend they know everything, especially about other countries.

anyway, I digress...the next excuse will be climate. the destruction of local roads round here the minute lockdowns are announced is astonishing. It is impossible to get the bus out of the local area.

I gather there are many parts of the country where green crap has been put in during lockdown.

Electric cars don't go very far and they won't be designing them so that they do.

I pointed out to the local MP that I didn't see "Communist" on the ballot paper, never mind having accidentally ticked it.

but hey ho, we have to rise up or live with it. The "Rise up" faction are probably about 5% of us, if that.

Seriouslymole · 20/01/2021 11:32

I am very worried about climate change but I'm buggered if I'm supporting another f'ing lock down!

ISaySteadyOn · 20/01/2021 11:36

Me too. But everything to me comes back to accepting that whatever we do, some people will die as a result. There is no zero mortality option. And whether death comes to me as a cheerful top hat wearing Goth or a tall CAPITAL SPEAKING cat loving skeleton, it will come.

Funny thing is all those who are talking about saving lives often go on about the harm overpopulation does to the climate. It confuses me.

But I am ill today with a bog standard cold in the head so my thoughts may be muddled.

chocolatesweets · 20/01/2021 11:43

I've deleted bbc news off my phone and I don't watch it on telly either. Also deleted facebook as people are just fighting on it. I can't deal with the judgement and people saying people should shop solo etc. Like everyone is in a position to do that.

I'm just trying to focus on my own little world. That's all I can do.

Shouted at my toddlers this morning and I feel so guilty. They scream and fight and the sound makes me feel sick sometimes. I'm lucky (ish) as I don't have (paid) work - I'm a stay at home mum but on the other hand, I don't have work. We can't move forward financially as a family. We can't afford childcare yet (until they're 3). And all people talk about is f*ing constant coronavirus. As a fit 30 something year old without money, it's the least of my worries. But no one cares about our issues.

Pity party maybe but I don't want any guests. I just want the chance to take care of myself.

Iheartmysmart · 20/01/2021 11:46

Also concerned about climate change but refuse to lockdown any more. I can’t afford an electric car neither do I have anywhere to charge one. I haven’t been on a plane for 3 years and tend to use public transport when going any distance, don’t eat much meat and recycle pretty much everything. Not sure how much more I can do as one person.

On a lighter note, I have just been going through my clothes working out what can go and got the complete arse when I couldn’t get a pair of jeans past my knees. Thought I’d put on more weight than expected before realising they belong to my son who is 6ft tall with a 28 inch waist. Phew.

ISaySteadyOn · 20/01/2021 11:49

@chocolatesweets, if I could, I would take your toddlers for a few hours. And hand them off to DD1. Littlies adore her and the feeling is mutual.

justasking111 · 20/01/2021 13:00

Been strangely comforted today, went back to the spanish flu 50 to 100 million died. Worldometer says 2 million dead, so despite the sadly ...... we are doing better in the 21st century than we did 100 years ago.

justasking111 · 20/01/2021 13:03

Suggested casually to OH we did the spare room which has been ignored since we moved in 4 years ago. This was a few days ago. Well bloody hell this morning he had a wasp up his ass. Started going on about crap in there as he rolled up his sleeves and cleared it. Well under the bed were two defunct sky boxes he wanted to keep and bucket and spade stuff for the grandkids. Throw the wardrobe he proclaimed, with my stuff in!!! I have to keep my coats in there because, his hunting, shooting, fishing coats take up the hall closet. Told him to F off and slammed the door on him.

Seriouslymole · 20/01/2021 13:09

DS (11) totally lost it today and hung up on his French lesson. He wants to overthrow the government and find another way out of this apparently.

We had a long, wet walk and decided he would reengage with learning but that he would also write an article that we would email out to myriad news people to show how it is for an 11 year old. I have no idea how to give him any other control over this situation. It's like walking on eggshells.

DD (10) is less cheerful than she usually is but still pretty glass-half-full. DS is exhausting but I feel his pain, I really do. I just wish I could stop it!

LivinLaVidaLoki · 20/01/2021 13:12

we care @chocolatesweets Thanks

maggienolia · 20/01/2021 13:25

Well I'm now officially vaccinated, everything was busy but well managed.

Listening to the radio this morning, there was the usual COVID IS EVERYWHERE, VENTURE OUT AND YOU WILL DIE broadcast.
That was followed by an anti gambling one and soon after an anti drinking one.
Oliver Cromwell must have been the controller this morning.

Bollss · 20/01/2021 13:38

i've just heard an advert

"rates are rising in xxx" and then "if you bend the rules people will die"

a) theyre falling pretty rapidly actually, and b) are they trying to scare a generation of children with these adverts? its totally inappropriate.

Its not rule bending killing people, its a virus, well.... virusing.

justasking111 · 20/01/2021 13:40

If I could would send you a video I took of a local stream which is now a torrent, flood warnings in place in Wales I think covid will take second place to floods for a bit.

mightbealittlebitmad · 20/01/2021 13:43

I'm totally demotivated today, done one zoom lesson, another one later but that's it for homeschooling. The kids are dressed, clean and fed, I've unloaded and reloaded the dishwasher, tidied up and had a shower. Otherwise I've just been browsing the gloomy internet, playing candy crush and doing word searches, occasionally shouting at the kids to stop messing around. Considered going for a walk but it's barely stopped raining and I can't deal with any more mud.

I hope primary schools can start to go back after half term, we are really struggling here.

BogRollBOGOF · 20/01/2021 13:47

We've got flood warnings too. There was a lot through the county November '19 including a fatality. How it didn't flood again before the rain stopped the weekend that we locked down, I don't know.
But the mud is actually worse this year.

6+ months of near constant rain left me feelong jaded before lockdown#1 hit!

@Seriouslymole
That sounds like an excellent idea (getting your DS to write an article).

@justasking111, floods are a real worry. Where will they put residents who have to be evaccuated, given the pandemic & no mixing of households?

The politician who made the comment about climate change & more lockdown scenarios to deal with it can do one today.

starfish88 · 20/01/2021 14:17

I do think it's amazing no one considered those adverts on children. Given that you can't even advertise burgers or sweets to kids, the idea of adverts scaring the crap out of them like the covid miasma one seems rather unfair.

Can fix him up with DD1 who is still planning to form a political party, become prime minster, get her school open and flush Boris down the toilet if you like!
Seriouslymole · 20/01/2021 14:23

@CoffeeWithCheese - maybe he could be her health secretary?

Iheartmysmart · 20/01/2021 14:27

I wish some of your children were running the country, they sound great!

Oh the bloody mud! Had a good clean earlier which made me feel a bit better but then had to take the dog out so there are muddy footprints everywhere again. He hates having his feet wiped so mopping is a never ending chore at the moment.

The overflow on the local lake has actually overflowed! I’ve only seen that happen a couple of times in 20 odd years.

TheOrchidKiller · 20/01/2021 14:38

Agreed.
Do you think there's a messed-up adult in their late 40s in charge of covid adverts? Being brought up on 1970s Public Safety Announcements probably drove them to it!

Those 70s ads have had a lasting impact on me. It's why I don't wash the kitchen floor too often- anyone who's seen an actor with side-burns & a polo-neck slip on a highly polished floor & clutch their back in agony, every lunchtime during the ad breaks between Pipkins & Rainbow will understand my reluctance.
