Extra office chair sent- how long do I keep?

Eight months ago, when it became clear I’d be wfh for the long haul I ordered an office chair. The one I ordered went out of stock and I was offered a slightly more expensive chair at the same price- all great.

About 3 weeks later the first chair arrived. I emailed and explained it was sent in error and did they want to pick up. No response. A few weeks later I received an invoice for the chair and I also got in touch. No response.

About a month ago I received a note saying they would contact baliffs if I didn’t respond and pay the same day. I replied (sending all my previous emails too) and was told someone would be in touch. But I haven’t heard. I have chased again and heard nothing.

What should I do next? How long do I need to keep the chair in case they want to pick it up? I don’t really want it hanging around much longer!

I think I’d drop them an email explaining when this issue occurred, when you first got in contact with them and that you’re willing to keep said chair for another week for them to pick up via courier or you’ll class it as abandoned.

Yes I was thinking of doing that. I am not expecting a response. Does anybody know how long until I can legally dispose of it? I was planning to give it away rather than actually binning it, but we don’t have room to keep indefinitely

Check with citizens advice?

Firstly, their communication threatening bailiffs should have information about the company. Find the registered address on the communication. Write a letter to their company secretary and send it recorded, including all the communication you have sent to them. This is then your defence.

Within that letter, also give them 10 business days to contact to to organise collection of the chair or you will consider it abandoned and will donate to the charity of your choice.

Send them an invoice for the storage of their stock in your home.

@SaltyTootsieToes that’s good advice thanks. I do have an address. I’ve sent another email, so will wait a couple of days for a reply and then write.

You need to issue them with a reasonable timeframe stating that if they do not collect within that timeframe you will dispose of it. 14 days is pretty standard.

Send a letter recorded.

SaltyTootsieToes · 18/01/2021 09:23

You need to be sure it’s the registers address. It should be within either an email but most definitely in the invoice abd the address will be identified as the registered address. Anything sent there is deemed by law, to have been recieved. The company secretary is correct person to receive it. You don’t need to know their name. Just ensure it’s addressed

Company secretary
Name of company
Registered address

By sending it recorded means you’ll get a proof it was signed for. Tell the post office you want this. Not just tracked. Keep your receipt of postage too.

Recorded delivery was stopped nearly a year ago. Nothing is now signed for.
