Help. What could be happening here?

My mum sent me a text message (she has iPhone and iPad I'm not sure which was using at the time) saying there were Easter eggs in Aldi. I replied my god Easter stuff already.

Next thing I get a messed from her that says "Oh sorry mate time I said I’ll be Easter do you like chocolate hello surely speak no charge what just came out of my mouth" Shock Then Mum text me in a panic saying what was that? I didn't write that message?!

What is going on?? Could she have been hacked? What should she do?

Probably pocket text with the predicted word button?

LIZS · 16/01/2021 21:38

Has she got siri on?

TodaysFishIsTroutALaCreme · 16/01/2021 21:39

I'm guessing she leant on the predicted words? I get all kinds of interesting sentences when I do that

My mum nearly had her ok it was still too hot for the next few days

Sent a message accidently via Siri?

DifficultPifcultLemonDifficult · 16/01/2021 21:41

Siri, or a butt text.

Done both multiple times Grin

LifeInAHamsterWheel · 16/01/2021 21:46

But the message makes no sense? If Siri was picking up spoken words, that is not a sentence that my mum would say!
Even a predictive text does seem plausible as none of that message makes any sense. She wasn't trying to text me at all.
It was sent on WhatsApp. Could that be hacked??

Just worried as she lives alone and we need to be able to contact her on phone/iPad so I'd like to be sure it's secure and she's safe.

100% she has either activated Siri accidentally while still on the message thread for you (there’s a small key at the bottom left of the keyboard that if tapped picks up what you say, often wrongly and creates text of what it’s picked up) or she has accidentally pressed a random thread of predicted text words (these appear at the top of the keyboard if turned on). Neither are anything to worry about, and she’s definitely not been hacked.

Given the speed of the second text I’d hazard a guess at Siri. She can turn off both Siri and predicted text via the settings on her phone if it bothers her but they can be quite useful too. I can point you to the right menus if you need to help her :)

Sounds exactly like a middle button autocorrect message or the voice message function in WhatsApp. It's really easy to accidentally press the mic button and have voice to text translation without you even knowing you've done it. I don't think there is anything to be concerned about. Smile

Thank you all. I have been suitably talked down Grin phew!
