Toothache remedies/pain relief

Dp has horrendous toothache, on antibiotics at the moment and it's being extracted next Friday after the infection has eased.

At the moment he is taking ibuprofen and soon as he has anything hot it starts to really hurt, he constantly has to have cold water in his mouth to ease the pain ? 6 days to go! Does anyone else have any other remedies? Hes a typical bloke who only takes meds if really needs to.

I know it sounds daft, but gargling with malt vinegar takes the pain away for a while, just don't swallow it!
Also oil of cloves. Tastes like utter shit, but definitely helps.

Co-codamol and orajel extra strength both from the pharmacy.

Borisjohnsonshairbrush · 16/01/2021 15:26

I've heard of oil of cloves/clove oil. Will places like Holland and barrett sell it?

@DeathMetalMum done codeine/paracetamol...didn't bloody work apart from make him throw up.

It's his own fault for putting the dentist off for so long.

I second orajel.
Excellent stuff. Ds had terrible wisdom tooth pain. Number it completely

romany4 · 16/01/2021 15:29

Numbed!

Lightly brushing his teeth may help alleviate it a bit. You can get the olive oil in the tooth repair kit (for fillings).

WalkersAreNotTheOnlyCrisps · 16/01/2021 15:31

Clove oil, not olive 🙄

Borisjohnsonshairbrush · 16/01/2021 15:32

Haha I knew what you meant

Anti-inflammatories. Ibuprofen is ok, but if you can get anything stronger, like Naproxen, it really helps. As the antibiotics kick in, the swelling will reduce anyway, but for a day or so, it can totally remove the pain. Obviously, usual checks for contraindications, stomach issues etc.. should be done.

IHaveBrilloHair · 16/01/2021 15:34

Clove oil really does work though it tastes disgusting.

TheIncredibleBookEatingManchot · 16/01/2021 15:37

Salt in cooled boiled water, hold in the mouth for a minute or two then spit out.

It really does help.

AtleastitsnotMonday · 16/01/2021 17:26

Another vote for max strength oragel.

Mollypolly2610 · 16/01/2021 17:38

I got clove oil in my local chemist.

Nyctophyllia · 16/01/2021 18:41

Ive just had this and had nuclear strength painkillers, the only thing that worked well was clove oil. Tastes disgusting and burns but does the trick

Borisjohnsonshairbrush · 16/01/2021 21:23

Thanks guys.

It's awful seeing him in pain. After 6 years together it's the first time I've seen him hold his hands up and says he doesn't feel well!

I have recurring wisdom tooth infections from impacted teeth

You need to get him to stagger paracetamol/ibruprofen and codeine if he can tolerate it

Oragel, salt water rinses, whiskey/vodka held on the tooth and clove oil
