Tips for moving house

I’m moving house in a few weeks. Trying to get as organised as possible - what’s your best tips I probably haven’t thought about?

Declutter as much as you can before you move. I always pack and label for each room. Pack bed linen for each bed so you just make them and get in. I also pack toiletries and an outfit for the next day. I pack tea, coffee etc in a separate box that goes with me as well as important documents.

I always hire movers and get them to put the beds together. If all you accomplish is the move, make beds and a take away it's a good day! Good luck!

We have been decluttering since we decided to sell - we have so much stuff! Boxes are labelled to rooms.

Great idea about bed linen for each bed, hadn’t thought of that!

We have movers - didn’t know they could put the beds together, will def ask them.

I have moved before but was from a small flat into this house and pre children - totally different to moving a 4 bed house with 3 small kids!!

Pair of socks in each glass, put glass in one sock - protects the glasses and uses up the socks!!

Get large wardrobe bags with drawstring tops. Put over clothes when they're still on the hangers. Then in the new place, hang them up and take the bags off. Don't be folding and packing it all!

Definitely have the 'moving day' box. Tea, coffee, kettle, cups, milk, biscuits, soap, toilet roll, towel etc.

Also pack an overnight bag. Good tip earlier on bed linen!

With kids, I guess have a backpack for them each with some toys in etc?

Can you get childcare? Moving and looking after children is crazy.

And plan dinner on the first night (agree you’ll get a take away at 6pm). Otherwise you’ll be tempted to carry on for 5 more minutes and be starving and grumpy

Clearly label all boxes that need opening in the first few hours urgent. Pack kettle, several mugs, tea, instant coffee, sugar squash and glasses, snacks etc in your car not movers - movers will want drinks. If you ca. Get large plastic bags for duvets and pillows do it, though we put in one of the cars. Clean cupboards as you pack. Took us only 10 days to pack, it really isn't too bad, don't worry, but do empty loft and do runs to the dump ahead of time

I’m not sure whether childcare is within the guidelines?

Moving day box sounds great, will get that sorted for sure!
