I just want a meal out

MoonCheesy · 15/01/2021 20:30

It's only just half way through January and obviously lockdown but I so so so want a meal out. I'm fed up of my house, I'm fed up of cooking and I'm fed up of 2021 already.

I want a decent steak or a delicious Thai meal or even just breakfast pancakes will do.

@Spud13 you chose your profession. I’m sick of hearing HCPs moaning. You’re doing your job and we’re all supposed to be amazingly grateful. I miss going out

EssentiallyDelighted · 16/01/2021 10:15

Yes to missing the spontaneity even when things are open. Not just restaurants but anywhere - we had a UK holiday in August but luckily it was somewhere we'd been before and knew good pubs as we had to book tables before we left home (EOTHO meant they were very booked up), book tickets for NT places and then have to go even if it was pouring with rain and we'd have rather gone another day, book the zoo several days ahead, it was lovely to go to all these places but not the same as just waking up, looking at the weather and deciding to go to a place that day and then finding a nearby pub to eat based on where we'd been.

iklboo · 16/01/2021 10:19

Oh I forgot we're only allowed to talk & think about Covid 24/7 and not think about what we are looking forward to when things can go back to some semblance of normal. Quick - pass me my hair shirt & flagellation gear.

Hobnobswantshernameback · 16/01/2021 10:23

Ah ignore the cowardly bitchplopper bet she hasn't been within several country miles of dying covid patients
She sure as heck doesn't represent me or my colleagues
You get an attention seeking wanker in every department
I definitely miss spontaneous things
Just popping out last minute for a meal or a coffee

MistleTOEboughski · 16/01/2021 10:32

Of course it's not the worst problem in the country right now but most of us are missing out freedom and looking forward to the day we can safely get out with a big group of friends or family to enjoy a nice meal. As someone who has been on many diets can I just point out one advantage of not going out for a while is that you really appreciate it more when you do go.

sashh · 16/01/2021 10:33

@Spud13 People are allowed to miss things that were once very normal to them, it is allowed.

This ^

Go read Anne Frank's diary, she talks about missing travelling on trams and better food.

CloudPop · 16/01/2021 10:34

Completely agree with you. Was just saying that yesterday.

Suzi888 · 16/01/2021 10:46

Just order a takeaway from a pub and collect it.

Ah, the 'justers'. Getting a takeaway from a pub (the OP already said she lives in a town that's mainly Indian takeaways) isn't the same as going out for a meal, sitting in a restaurant, having someone wait on you, cook your food for you. The social interaction. That's what we're missing.

CupoTeap · 16/01/2021 10:59

Hmm going out to eat

WrongKindOfFace · 16/01/2021 11:22

@Suzi888

Just order a takeaway from a pub and collect it.
It’s not the same though. Still the same four walls and washing up.

I would love to be able to go out for a meal. Or to the cinema or theatre. Or try clothes on in an actual shop. Or go somewhere different. Not even abroad (although that would be lovely) but somewhere in the U.K.

Suzi888 · 16/01/2021 11:33

I know it’s not the same, but it’s better than cooking food yourself etc. It makes a change. It’s better than doing nothing at all surely. Make the most of a bad situation, that’ll hopefully be over soon.

NotMyWay · 16/01/2021 11:46

Try Plateaway. Restaurant food fully prepared and you just heat and assemble, They deliver Nationwide.

alienspiderbee · 16/01/2021 11:51

Just order a takeaway from a pub and collect it.

This assumes that this is an option, none of our local pubs are doing takeaway food.

WalrusWife · 16/01/2021 11:52

Before lockdown we had a very naice meal out. I am pregnant so enjoyed dressing up in my nicest maternity dress and doing hair and make up etc. Also went to Pizza Express the same week, this was in December.

Normally DH and I would go out for brunch once a week. When I’m on maternity leave I would like to take DD out for morning coffees. We have a couple of cafes in walking distance. I miss sitting in Starbucks too in a cosy corner.

iklboo · 16/01/2021 12:09

Sodding hell that Plateaway is expensive. And you still have to cook it yourself? £23 for an apple cake mix! Okay so it may be 'finest' ingredients but it's a lot of bloody money for something I'd still have to mix & bake.

Biscoffaddict · 16/01/2021 12:11

I miss Sunday dinner at my favourite local restaurant. They were quite late to reopen when the rules relaxedand then everything had to shut down again so we never got chance to go. I often think of the lovely staff who work there.

Hotcuppatea · 16/01/2021 12:19

I'm with you OP. I'm sick of being indoors.

micc · 16/01/2021 12:20

I hear you! I'm really thinking about great pub grub in a cozy pub by a fire.

trappedsincesundaymorn · 16/01/2021 12:24

@Spud13

Meanwhile I'm holding people's hand as they die from covid and you want a meal out FFS, this is what is so disheartening about the current situation. Talk about a first world problem!!!!
Meanwhile 2020 saw me lose my job and both parents and right now I'd love a meal out...if that's alright with you.
smallandimperfectlyformed · 16/01/2021 13:26

@trappedsincesundaymorn I am really sorry for your losses, to lose both parents and your job all in the same year is devastating.

bluecheesefan · 16/01/2021 13:30

Yes, but there's still no need to deliberately have a go at the OP to make them feel shit.
NotMyWay · 16/01/2021 20:18

I meant Restokit not Plateaway!
