It’s what vests used to be made of in ye olden days. Slightly ribbed but not hugely so. With patterns or edging made of tiny holes. I think it sometimes had an all over pattern made of tiny holes

I know, I don’t think it stretched either, but it was as good a guess as any

M and S do pointelle thermal vests still!

Isn’t it just a thermal vest? I got two last year - from M&S and Primark. Stretchy with teeny holes all over.

Viyella is a woven mix of wool and cotton, no holes. I wish I could buy it by the metre but can't find a supplier.
