The name of a particular fabric material that I’ve forgotten

It’s what vests used to be made of in ye olden days. Slightly ribbed but not hugely so. With patterns or edging made of tiny holes. I think it sometimes had an all over pattern made of tiny holes

Help me out, it’s driving me mad

String vest ... ala Rab C Nesbitt?

wowfudge · 15/01/2021 20:12

Pointelle isn't it? Or are you perhaps thinking of a brand, like Damart?

Torvi · 15/01/2021 20:12

I'd just call it a thermal vest but I think it's pointelle as a pp said

wowfudge · 15/01/2021 20:13

@Marmite27

broderie anglaise?
You wouldn't make a thermal vest from that though - it's for summer clothes.
Anyonebut · 15/01/2021 20:14

Another vote for pointelle

I know, I don’t think it stretched either, but it was as good a guess as any Grin

Mustardbay · 15/01/2021 20:15

John lewis do lovely baby vests in that material.

HelenaNightSoilCart · 15/01/2021 20:15

Interlock?

CaptainMyCaptain · 15/01/2021 20:16

Airtex or interlock.

CharlotteFlax · 15/01/2021 20:16

Viyella?

wowfudge · 15/01/2021 20:17

Link says pointelle jersey

keyworkerhonestguv · 15/01/2021 20:17

M and S do pointelle thermal vests still!

daisypond · 15/01/2021 20:18

Isn’t it just a thermal vest? I got two last year - from M&S and Primark. Stretchy with teeny holes all over.

CaptainMyCaptain · 15/01/2021 20:18

Viyella is a woven mix of wool and cotton, no holes. I wish I could buy it by the metre but can't find a supplier.

wowfudge · 15/01/2021 20:19

@CharlotteFlax

Viyella?
Viyella is a blend of merino wool and cotton and doesn't have stretch.

Definitely pointelle

diddl · 15/01/2021 20:43

Are they thermal vests?

I'm sure that I wore them as a kid & they were just a standard white vest with a picot edging?

diddl · 15/01/2021 20:52

Sorry, I see that Op mentioned "ye olden days"Sad
