Can someone explain NC to me please?

I understand that sometimes MNters wish to remain completely anonymous and therefore change their username. However many say 'NC for this'. Does this mean that afterwards they revert to their 'old' username? I thought that once you've NCed you can't go back to your previous username.

You can swap back and forth between usernames as much as you like.

BertieBotts · 14/01/2021 13:55

Yes you can go back to a previous username.

SnowFields · 14/01/2021 13:55

You can go back to previous usernames whenever you want.

NavyFlask · 14/01/2021 13:56

You can go back to any name you've previously had, at any time- just time it into the Username bar over the greyed name that appears there.

NavyFlask · 14/01/2021 13:57

type that would be...sorry

NavyFlask · 14/01/2021 13:58

Actually, all these posts were HappyFlamingo reposting to prove it Wink

So any name you used in the past stays 'parked' for you? Other users can't claim it? I never knew that.

Yes and you can overwrite your name in the Username of each comment if you don’t want to go through the whole process of changing it through settings.
BertieBotts · 14/01/2021 14:08

Yes, this is why it's so hard to find a name that's not already been used!

Every few years MNHQ used to do a "username amnesty" where they'd raffle off the old names from dead accounts and allow them to be reassigned. They haven't done that in ages though.

BarryWhiteIsMyBrother · 14/01/2021 14:09

Thank you everyone.

@SnowFields I didn't know that! I've tried it but it has to be one you've already used.

CheeseCakeSunflowers · 14/01/2021 14:14

I didn't know this either so I'm giving it a try.
