I'm looking for a good pair of walking runners for the road. My ankles aren't great after hurting them both so something strong.
Anyone with any knowledge on a pair?
Thanks

Hi there. Fit is the most important thing, so try to collect some suggestions and then, if possible, try on the ones you like the sound of before you buy. What fits one person's foot doesn't fit everybody's foot.

Having said that, I've used inov8 Roclites for years. I use them currently for road walking, but have also used them extensively for hiking and backpacking and some running. They're quite expensive, and the company changed hands a few years ago, but I've been happy with the last pair I bought.

I also really like Salomon as a brand - for me they fit well, and do a good job.

Sorry, I forgot to say also that in relation to ankle strength I've been in a lot of discussions about that over the years, in the context of boots v. trail shoes for backpacking.

I realise it might be different because you've hurt your ankles (I'm sorry to hear that), but FWIW my own experience has been that the best way to build ankle strength is by using them. I've worn trail shoes for all walking/backpacking for many years (except in inappropriate winter conditions), and so my ankles have become strong as they've had to learn to cope with supporting me across uneven ground. No trail shoe/runner is going to provide support around your ankles, and IMO that's a good thing.

I hope you find something that suits you :)
