Can any Irish MNers tell me if there are gaps on Irish supermarket shelves

......or is it only Northern Ireland?

I would have thought it might affect Irish shoppers too.

I would think Ireland would also be affected.

AFAIK M&S has empty shelves but I haven't seen any othet supermarkets affected. Presume they stock much higher levels of Irish products?

PinkyParrot · 14/01/2021 15:49

Interesting. Thanks.

There’s a hoo-hah about the lack of Percy Pigs!

BeTheHokeyMan · 14/01/2021 15:54

Hi yes there is. I've noticed it in Tesco, lidl , iceland and aldi in the last few weeks . Lots of stores seem to be running very low on fresh fruit/ veg/ meat/certain cheese/fresh fruit juices/yogurt. One of our Irish chains supervalu which is normally very well stocked was shockingly empty when I went last week no bread , fresh meat , prepacked sliced meats, fruit etc it was quite scary if I'm honest.

2TheMoonNBack · 14/01/2021 15:56

Yes, noticed shortages in fruit and veg, bread & prepared meals in Tesco, Lidl & M&S since last week.
We're all in strict lockdown at the moment so hard to tell whether the supply chain issues are due to Covid, Brexit or both.

Rosiie22 · 14/01/2021 16:00

Supervalu was really lacking in fruit & veg last week- we assumed it was linked to post-xmas shops. It's stocked backed up this week though.

BiddyPop · 14/01/2021 16:22

I know DH had found lots of, not empty exactly but shelves with very little choice (so lots of potatoes but no other veg; or bottles of squash lined up in fridges to cover up empty shelves), and what was available had very short dates, when he was in M&S at the weekend. But M&S brings an awful lot of it's food in from the UK.

He was in the small local Tesco last night, and said that was fine, plenty there and no obvious gaps.

We generally do the main shop online, and SuperValu has had a few odd subs and couple of "not available" items in the past few weeks, more so than in recent months. So we had no bread at all last week, no lamb or part-baked bread or melon this week (I'd ordered 2 different types). But most things, including fresh things, arrived.

BiddyPop · 14/01/2021 16:23

(I haven't physically been in a shop since before Christmas due to, well, shielding for asthma, even if we don't really use that term here)

M0rT · 14/01/2021 16:26

I did a click and collect yesterday from SuperValu and substituted items included mushrooms, chillis and coconut milk. So either the picker was a teenager with no common sense or there were no mushrooms at all in the shop!
That's odd because we grow a lot ourselves so hard to know if it's Covid or Brexit as pp said.

CrystalFlyer · 14/01/2021 18:35

I was in Tesco yesterday and the only thing I couldn't get was avocados. The whole section was completely empty.

IndieRo · 14/01/2021 18:47

I haven't noticed any shortages. I do my main shop in Aldi and top ups in my local Tesco Express. I'm in Dublin.

VodselForDinner · 14/01/2021 18:53

I only buy from Irish supermarkets but haven’t noticed any shortages/gaps.

PinkyParrot · 14/01/2021 18:56

Quite a mixed bag, must depend on whether deliveries are from over the border or not

My local.shop is fine. But my sainsburys has spar branded products in it !

Sakura7 · 14/01/2021 18:58

Slightly more gaps in Tesco than usual, but only slightly. Dunnes and Aldi are fine.

We produce a lot of our own food so aren't so reliant on shipments from the UK.

Newtothis2017 · 14/01/2021 18:59

No problems in tesco and supervalu where I am. Also fine in the smaller shops. Plenty of choice. I'm in dublin

scubadub · 14/01/2021 19:05

I'm in rep of Ireland and I haven't noticed gaps or shortages in anything and I have been to lidl, aldi and tesco in the last week

Thesagacontinues · 14/01/2021 19:10

Yes. Getting online tesco shops here.

Last weeks arrived without all the frozen veg. Popped in to see if I could get some sunday and the shelves were bare.

Finished off this weeks order last night and loads of the fresh meat was out of stock as well as the frozen veg still out of stock.

mairerua · 14/01/2021 19:10

Difficult to say as fresh foods are often low after Christmas holidays. They are only getting back to normal about now.

Thesagacontinues · 14/01/2021 19:11

Also steak missing from last weeks shop too now that I think of it.

Joolsin · 14/01/2021 19:17

Not really, apart from M&S. A few gaps in fresh fruit and veg at the beginning of last week, but I think that's more to do with the Christmas break than anything else. All fine this week.

OuiOuiKitty · 14/01/2021 19:20

I've only noticed cat litter being difficult to get and I haven't been able to get raspberries for the past few days. I live in a small town with only 2 supermarket choices though.

frumpety · 14/01/2021 19:38

Could it have anything to do with the Snow in England at the back end of last week ?

SionnachRua · 14/01/2021 19:39

Not really, no. Though I did have to hunt down pancetta the other week, there seemed to be none in the country!
