Lockdown birthday - 40th birthday inspiration needed!

My husband is 40 at the end of February.

Normally for a milestone birthday I would arrange a city break for the 2 of us or something (we have 2 children under 6)

However, this is out of the window for a couple of reasons:

  1. the obvious! CV19
  2. I can't afford it. CV has hit our earnings massively over the last year

So I need inspiration. What can I do to make it special? At home special? Involving the 2 kids as well. He's so fabulous and supportive, I really want to make it as amazing as I can for him.

Can you do a video montage and get friends/family to record messages, add photos and funny stories.
Nice bottle of his favourite drink if he drinks.
Bake a cake and decorate it much cheaper than buying one from a baker and kids can help too, loads of you tube tutorials on cake decorating)
This is your life type book ask friends/family for input, print it all up and ask a book binder to cover it not too expensive.
Things like breakfast in bed, nice lunch takeout from deli and my husband taking over with the children was what I remember most about my birthday during lockdown.
You can always aim to do a bbq/party later in the year depending on how things go.

I had my lockdown 40th in June 2020 having cancelled a night at le mainoir with dinner and massive party with a band the following weekend. I was quite gutted but still had a great time

I had helium balloons and decorations, dressed up nice, made pina coladas according to the bon appetit recipe, my dad arranged a local tea room to deliver afternoon tea, I took some nice pics, ate cake, got drunk and listened to my fave music. It was great. Facetimed a few people too

I had my 40th last year during lockdown. We had originally hoped to go away for the weekend and leave dc at home, but obviously not possible. But instead, I had a weekend of being generally pampered, lie ins, country walks with some bubbly and snacks prepared by dc, and a special meal (dh ordered some fancy foods to cook that are a rare treat). Honestly, just being able to relax and feel a bit special was enough after this year and it doesn't have to cost lots of money.

Rick stein is doing a "stein at home" deal, I've booked it for my DD's birthday next month.

Other things are video messages from friends, virtual party etc
