My 12 y/o likes filming/editing videos. Do you know anything about this stuff?

My nearly 12-year-old son has recently gotten very into making and editing videos using a massive green sheet green screen and a small Canon point-and-shoot camera. (He has an iPhone 7 and a built-in camera on his MacBook but he prefers the Canon.) For his bday I’d like to get him something/things to help hobby. (I’m not trying to create the next Spielberg, I just want my son to stick with the hobby for a while — he is very capable but has a habit of giving up when things get the tiniest bit complicated.)

I know nothing about cameras or tech so I would be grateful for any info/guidance. Also specifically wondering:
—Would he benefit from a different camera (one that can be had in the £100 range)?
—Can you recommend some kind of tripod or something else to position the camera?
—Is iMovie the right editing software for a kid his age? It seems a bit confusing for him although he is learning.

Thank you very much for any assistance!

Have a look on Amazon at some V-Logger cameras. They are designed for kids who want to creat social media videos, images, you tube streaming etc.

They would make a perfect entry level video camera for him and all are tripod compatible.

Hope that helps a little.

IMovie is very simple to learn. If you wanted to invest in fancier software, Final Cut Pro is what I'd recommend (bit trickier to get his head around maybe, but if he's passionate it's got a lot more capacity for creativity). Could always use Adobe Premiere too.

Not sure about cameras / tripods though, not my area of expertise unfortunately Grin

Thank you both so much! I will check out the v-logger cameras. Easy is what I want to we will stick with iMovie for now.
