What period in history fascinates you the most?

My degree was in history (special subject was the French Revolution) but it seems like a lifetime ago. I can barely remember any of it so it's my new year's resolution to start reading more and hauling the old knowledge out.

I'm as fascinated with WW2 as I ever was as a geeky child, but I also particularly enjoy Renaissance history and a good old king and queen story.

If you have any book recommendations that would be great.

Ancient Egypt! Learned about it in primary school and was fascinated

This is well before the current well known series, but the Regency Period. I was reading Georgette Heyer when I was seven, lol. After that, Victorian.

Vichy France.

Ptolemaic Alexandria.

Tudor
Jacobean
Medieval
Victorian
Ancient Rome

Edwardian era. Such a different time, and yet strangely modern as well.

Georgian. I'd love to walk the streets of my town during this period. The buildings, the clothes etc...

British Civil Wars and Restoration.
I started studying them 30 years ago (!!!!) at A level and I'm still learning amazing stuff every day about the period. I'm an author and a re-enactor as well as a curious historian so you might say I'm pretty fully immersed in the mid 17th century....

Ww2 Eastern Europe

I have a strong interest in biblical times. I'm not at all religious but it fascinates me.

British Civil Wars and Restoration.

It's really dreadful to admit, but I have such a gap in knowledge of Regency and Georgian history. I skip from the Stuarts right up to Victoria

Tudor times for me. I'm fascinated by social/domestic history. How they made cheese, cleaned clothes, made shoes etc?

The Neolithic times- but I know that isn't allowed to be called history!

I've read lots of historical fiction set in Tudor times and around the end of the plantagenet era (the whole princes in the tower thing is fascinating to me) so both of those time periods for sure.

I've also read a lot of books based on Aliénor of Aquitane and again that time period is so interesting as the thought of her living c.800 years ago just kind of blows my mind a bit!

1920s and 1930s - interwar years

I change my mind depending on what I'm reading!!
I do always come back to the Tudor's though.

My 6 year old is obsessed with WWII so I'm learning a lot about that at the moment.

I did a BA and MA in history specialising in early modern. I did a lot on history of mental health, prisons, homosexuality and male identity. I loved it. Still fascinates me

I did Ancient History at Uni with a focus on Ptolemaic Egypt. Love anything from ancient Egypt up to Roman Egypt though. It’s fascinating!
