What's that expression about a confident opinion over a poorly argued fact?

I know this sounds stupid but I wanted to use it today and couldn't drag it out of my mind, and Google hasn't helped!

An empty vessel makes the loudest sound? Probably wrong...but the only one that springs to mind!

Mouth writing cheques their brain can’t cash?

Ambition exceeds ability?

Is it

'Better to remain silent and be thought a fool than to open your mouth and remove all doubt'?

DanFmDorking · 13/01/2021 03:10

Correlation is not causation?

The best lack all conviction
While the worst are full of passionate intensity...wb yeats

The problem with the world is that the intelligent people are full of doubts while the stupid ones are full of confidence ..bukowski

Plato: opinion is the medium between knowledge and ignorance

The fewer the facts, the stronger the opinion

Discussion is an exchange of knowledge, argument an exchange of ignorance

There is no greater mistake than the hasty conclusion that opinions are worthless because they are badly argued

Any of these?

Style over substance ?

@DollyMixtureLulus - Have you been able to find/remember the expression you were looking for?
I keep on thinking about it!

SueGeneris · 22/01/2021 23:52

Some great expressions here. It’s not this one, but this is one of my favourites:

Fine words butter no parsnips.

"I would challenge you to a battle of wits, but I see you come unarmed" (Unknown)

"I disapprove of what you say, but defend to the death your right to say it" (Hall, for Voltaire, 1956)

"All mouth and no trousers" (JovialNickname, 2021)

All bark and no bite?
All talk and no action?

Bluesername · 24/01/2021 09:01

All mouth and no trousers?

Witchend · 24/01/2021 09:35

Talking with my bil?

Afromeg · 24/01/2021 09:38

Ah, I've just experienced one of those not too long ago. Is it an 'empty vessel makes the most noise'?

Although it's more for 'over an incorrect information' than 'a poorly argued fact'.

I like to call that 'confidently arrogant in ignorance'.

I know of a cartoon.
Scene: man and woman sitting at a table for two.
Caption: "Let me interrupt your expertise with my confidence"
