Hogwarts and pandemic

So, we have just finished “The Chamber of Secrets” and I am idly wondering how Hogwarts has been affected by the pandemic.
They can’t have gone online because all electrical devices go haywire near the school grounds (Source: Hogwarts, A History), so has anyone seen unusual numbers of owls flying around recently?
Has apparating and use of floo powder to non-local areas come under new regulations by the Ministry of Magic?
I am guessing there will be no Tri-Wizard Tournament again this year (if the tradition was ever revived).
If anyone has a recent copy of the Daily Prophet, could they update us, please?

Wizards are immune. They tried to offer BoJo some help with managing the crisis but no one could find him.

Surely with a sensible isolation policy it would be business as usual at Hogwarts. As long as students don't go home in the holidays (not ideal but parents of Hogwarts students seem to be a bit lax about their kids safety anyway so probably not too much of an issue) they won't be mixing with among else. Hogwarts is just one large bubble.

snowqu33n · 12/01/2021 13:54

But most students usually go home for Christmas, don’t they?

Lots, but not all. They'd have to get the students to remain over the holidays.
PeigiSu · 12/01/2021 13:56

They only have 10 students per form and a massive castle! I’d say they’re ok for distancing!

Plus they can sort outdoor heating much better than us with their magic fires.

If bake-off can be one household reckon Hogwarts can too.

So, just no outings to Hogsmeade for Butterbeer?

Madame Pomfrey would have made short work of covid.

SoupDragon · 12/01/2021 14:02

@Plonque

Madame Pomfrey would have made short work of covid.
This. She can re-grow bones, Coronavirus would stand no chance.

Hogsmead trips are only for 3rd years and up, but they would be off too. I'd assume most of the Hogsmead shops would be closed anyway as non-essential.

I suspect she may have been helping out with speeding up the development of vaccines. Possibly providing some extract of gillyweed or something.

Dumbledore transfigured Harry's scar to make it tingle whenever he got within a broomstick's length of anyone with the Rona.

World class track and trace system, indeed.

snowqu33n · 12/01/2021 14:16

@KittyWithStripes

Bit poor taste, that, with Dumbledore having passed away. Harry left school a long time ago - isn’t he an auror now or something? I believe Hermione is still at the Ministry for Magic.

Enormous castle and only 10 kids in each house per year group is seems! I'd love to be in that cosy castle now.

mongoosebaby · 12/01/2021 14:19

It's a non issue for wizards because of bubble head charms. See Harry Potter and the goblet of fire for details, but bubble head charms allow you to breathe underwater, so will definitely stop you getting COVID.

SnowFields · 12/01/2021 14:22

Surely they will just cast the Immunicateus spell so they can’t be infected?

snowqu33n · 12/01/2021 14:26

Oh, yes, @mongoosebaby I had forgotten the bubble head charms!! I was thinking about the gillyweed instead.

Boarding schools consider each house to be is own household. So they would be bubbled in their dorms, doing remote learning. I wonder if the owls would be allowed to come and go freely with communications?

snowqu33n · 12/01/2021 14:31

Yes, and what about the house elves, for meals and so on? There are hundreds of them

PepperUp Potion.
Sorted.

sonjadog · 12/01/2021 14:37

No need for remote learning. They would increase the number of ghosts on the teaching staff and as they wouldn't be worried about corona, they could move from between the houses and teach lessons.

Plonque · 12/01/2021 14:41

There's shield charms too, you couldnust have one of those hovering whenever you're within spitting distance of a Slytherin, who no doubt would try to actually spit at you.

MichelleofzeResistance · 12/01/2021 14:42

Professor McGonnagle has enclosed each student in their own personal bubble. Like the bubblehead charm but bigger. It's fine. Grin

snowqu33n · 12/01/2021 14:45

The ghosts! Of course!
