Potentially splitting up with DH. Where do I stand?

Please go easy on me as I'm feeling very emotional.

DH and I are on the verge of splitting up. Been married 6 years and have a 2 year old.
DH works full time and I gave up my job to be a sahm.

DH says he will move out and will probably end up going back to his mums.

Where do I stand financially does anyone know?

In no particular order....

1. Ensure you have details of all Bank accounts and credit cards, house utilities, insurance, everything. Photos on your phone will suffice.
2. Ensure you have cash. Cashback when shopping may be your friend.
3. Apply for universal / tax credits
4. If you don't have one, open a sole bank account. You will need this for 3.
5. You can freeze bank accounts and credit cards. Tell them there is a marital dispute. This prevents either party running up debts or maxing out out the overdraft for which you will be jointly liable.
6. Get a Job. Easier said than done.
7. See a solicitor.
8. Local family for childcare is a bonus.

Should have said, don't freeze bank accounts until you have your own money coming in.

Plus, if he leaves, don't mess about with informal arrangements, go straight to child maintenance. Get it official.

Ive been there and survived it too....its bloody terrifying to have the rug pulled out from under you....especially when you have kids...but i promise you it will be ok...just take one day at a time and dont look to far ahead into the future.

Do you own or rent?
If you own then whose name is on the house and when was it bought?
Is there any equity in it?
You won’t have been out of the workplace that long, so start to look at opportunities to go back and yout potential earnings.
How much does he earn, this dictated your child mentaince. You can check what would be due on line. You’d likely not be entitled to spousal maintenance
