MOT 2 days out if date - will congestion charge cameras pick it up

Completely my own fault
MOT out of date by two days and had to drive into London today for work. Only realised about MOT later today when I checked something else.
No excuse at all but everything has just been so full on.
Anyway - have obviously now booked it in for MOT but because I've been in the congestion zone twice today (once on way to work and once on way home) I'm assuming that the cameras will have picked it up and I'll now get penalty ??

Does anyone know if that's the case and also what penalty likely to be. Google says up to £1000 .

I think it can be picked up on ANPR but only if it's set to look for it (like a police car looking for uninsured vehicles) I wouldn't worry, just don't drive it until the MOT is sorted!

I think, if you have one booked, you're ok? Either way the police would pull you over and let you know, it's not like a speeding ticket that comes through the post or unpaid car tax where they come and clamp you.

No I definitely won't drive it again now apart from driving to the MOT.

ANPR cameras can pick up cars that aren't MOT'd. One of our work vans didn't have an MOT and the company were sent a fine in the post after it was picked up on cameras in the Tyne tunnel.

I’m 99.9% sure that if it has expired, you’re only allowed to drive it to the MOT centre. Mind you, that has come from watching countless episodes of Police Interceptor and Road Wars (DH loves a Police Interceptor).

No, it's not that you've just got one booked. You have to be driving it to the MOT testing station. If your MOT has expired you can't book a test for next week and then drive your car about in the meantime.

Now without MOT, you can only drive it to a precooked MOT appointment if you want to avoid sanction

@nobucketlist just as an FYI, you can avoid this happening again by signing up for the reminder email/texts on the gov.uk website. Saved me worry in the past!

Just got to wait now to see if got picked up yesterday and get penalty.
