Thinking of getting a Hive system. Just trying to work out if its worth the money.

Amy opinions?

Why Hive particularly ?

Freddiefox · 11/01/2021 18:35

Funnily enough I’ve just had my instalment cancelled, looking like it might be March now.. so I’m looking at nest and seeing how that compares

Redglitter · 11/01/2021 18:39

Doesn't have to be Hive it just seemed most popular & I know it works with Alexa

I got hive in 2019. I do love being able to control my heating from my phone especially the boost function. My old controls only allowed 2 timers a day ie rubbish. Hive is much more flexible. I don’t have a bad word to say about it.

ADMum20 · 11/01/2021 18:39

Had Hive installed last year.

Love it.

No opinion on Nest. Tado seems to be highly rated too.

GalOopNorth · 11/01/2021 18:41

We love ours.

SlipperyLizard · 11/01/2021 18:43

Love ours, the app is really easy to use & schedule.

We’re about to get a separate zone fitted for upstairs as we’ve struggled to get the downstairs warm without overheating upstairs in the morning.

BillMasen · 11/01/2021 18:53

I have nest and live it. Flexible to program, learns wen you come and go (well.... back when I did leave the house) and works with alexa. Also think it’s cut my gas useage down too.

Don’t think there’s a difference between nest and hive tbh. Both very similar

hartof · 11/01/2021 18:56

We had it fitted last week and so far love it! Looks better than the old stats and easier to use. I don't use Alexa with it I just use the app.

FutureDays · 11/01/2021 18:56

We've got a hive and love it, we had looked at the nest one but our plumber had said he'd had to uninstall a couple of the nest ones because people didn't get on with it working out it's own schedule so we went with the hive.

EssentiallyDelighted · 11/01/2021 18:56

We like the Nest, being able to control it from your phone is very handy and the programming is easy and flexible. However we turned off all the smart features as they were driving us mad (heating coming on at 4am and waking us up etc).

EssentiallyDelighted · 11/01/2021 18:57

Yes, I'd forgotten about the Nest working out it's own schedule. We lasted about three days with that (had it installed in the middle of winter) and just set up our own schedule.

Redglitter · 11/01/2021 19:06

Good to see such positive comments.

I work odd hours so setting a timer is a faff but controlling it from an app definitely appeals

Depends on your situation and what you want to use it for
Smart heating systems tend to be more worth it the bigger your house is because they only heat the spaces you are using when you use them.
We have the Honeywell system with 12 zones (all individually controlled) which would be too much for many houses but paid for itself with in 12months.
I like being able to have the kids rooms at different temperatures (one is a typical Geordie, the other is always cold) and only heat the office when I'm home alone. At this time of year the conservatory is generally just heated enough to stop the frost.
Basically you set the temperature and time for each room to follow what you are doing and avoid unnecessarily heating rooms or water.

Freddiefox · 11/01/2021 19:21

@BillMasen

Does your nest work if the internet is down?

Notasyoungasiwas · 11/01/2021 19:24

Had Hive for a few years. Like the fact that I can control it on my phone and LOVE the fact that I can control it on my Alexa when I'm being particularly lazy Grin

TheBoredLady · 11/01/2021 19:27

We have Tado and I love it.

Ours monitors the air quality, temperature and carbon monoxide as well as controlling the heating & water.

Wornout12108 · 11/01/2021 20:12

We love ours, had it about six months now. So much more flexibility with the heating and water schedules. You can tailor each day with different timings. So nice after we've been out in the cold to turn it up before we get in so it's nice and toasty.
The app is very easy, the wall box that replaced our old thermostat is fab. I'd highly recommend it.

ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 11/01/2021 20:16

Tado are great. Automatically turns off the heating when the house is empty (and turn it in for it to be warm when you get home).

Ginevere · 11/01/2021 20:43

Absolutely love ours. Smart heating is worth every penny. I do get the impression there’s no difference between the companies though!

MarshaBradyo · 11/01/2021 20:44

Yes really like ours

Greenbks · 11/01/2021 20:46

LOVE ours. Have had it for 3 years and it’s one of the best decisions we’ve made. We wake up and don’t have to run down or have to remember to set the timer etc. We also turn it on on particularly cold days when we are on our way home so the house is nice and warm.

FourTeaFallOut · 11/01/2021 20:46

I have hive, and can run it through Alexa. It's good. It's one of those things that works so well that you take it for granted and forget about it.

EdwardCullensBiteOnTheSide · 11/01/2021 20:50

Had it for a good few years and it's great, no problems. Works with Alexa too. The plugs and bulbs you can buy are easy to set up.

Ginfordinner · 11/01/2021 20:51

We have Hive, and love it. We can switch everything off when we are away, then set the water on to heat when we're at the airport coming home.

Being able to control it with my phone is so convenient.
