as in when you were a teen?

i can always think of something i want to change and most of the time it's something different everyday however there is one or two things that have never changed and i'm slowly accepting i can't change them.

i'm worried that in 30 years i'll look back at me now and wish i appreciated how i looked then.
do you wish you did?

What looks?

doadeer · 11/01/2021 08:37

Yes I think I did. I was very confident

Palavah · 11/01/2021 08:37

Yes, absolutely.

I wish I'd got fitter and toned up but I really wish I hadn't beaten myself up so much for not having done so.

No, not really. Not appreciating my looks and thinking I was ugly led me to explore the world, read, make friends, as I got zero fulfilment from my looks it looking in the mirror. Had a very interesting life instead.

It was a good thing, I don’t envy young people primping and preening for selfies and being all about their looks. I think they are missing out on life Smile

Yes. I wasn't the slim framed ideal at the time, as my schoolmates and family never tired of pointing out, so thought i was gross leading to bulimia etc as a teen. Now, after a few years of health problems and being overweight as a consequence, I am getting back to looking my best again and I really do enjoy it, even if I'm no longer 17 and nobody is around to see me as i'm stuck indoors!

I remember from the earliest age looking down at myself and seeing the biggest pot belly. I look back at old photos and see there was nothing there - I was so slim. How was I seeing something that wasn't there?!

Gives me hope I'm maybe not the massive beast that I think I am nowadays.

I once read something along the lines of - it doesn't matter how old you are, you'll always look at photos of yourself from 10 years ago wishing you look as good now as you did then, and then suggesting you imagine looking at a picture of yourself now in 10 years time.

Not quite what you are asking in your OP, but its a good way of appreciating how you look now and not being wistful for the past.
