My child hand-stands 500 times a day.

At least...
It's driving me absolutely potty. I'm talking to her feet more than I am her face.
Just repetitive one after another after another handstand.
She does it so much that she's got a six pack starting. She is 6 years old.
Does anyone else have this problem?
Before anyone asks she does do gymnastic classes!
She does it in the lounge, on the bed, the sofa, in the garden, out on walks. Absolutely everywhere and it is very very irritating!

Oh my life the rating! I used to have to rate DDs jumps on the trampoline out of 10. But then most of the time I was getting it wrong apparently. I’d say 8 and she’d say no that was only a 7, say the proper number! AHHHHH!!!

jojoandgrangran · 10/01/2021 16:55

I was a very uncoordinated child so this is all new to me!
It's just the sheer number she does in a day. Just checked the clock and she's now on an hour solid of constant handstands!

I'd forgotten the handstand gene. It's clearly a deeply seated evolutionary phase for girls to know how to be upside down. Goodness knows why!

Remember, this too will pass . . .

Yes! My 7 year old has kicked me in the face more times than I can count! She got a gym bar for Christmas and that has helped massively as she goes out and swings on that!

My eldest (now 22) was a goal keeper and spent years saving imaginary goals, he is now a cricketer and I still sometimes walk into a room and he’s practicing his bowling with a pretend ball.

I’m not surprised by anything anymore 🤷🏻‍♀️

NeedToKnow101 · 10/01/2021 16:56

I used to do this! If not handstands then standing on my head. I even used to watch TV upside-down.. 🙃 I did grow out of it..

Grenlei · 10/01/2021 16:56

I think this is rather lovely - my friends DD was very like this at similar age, cartwheeling up and down the lounge non stop (or the garden in good weather). She was literally never still, always doing some sort of acrobatics. Tbh I'd rather that than another friends DD who was constantly singing. Now that was irritating!

PivotPivotPivottt · 10/01/2021 16:56

Mine used to do this handstands, cartwheels, kickovers. So bloody annoying. Now its ballet leaps. Just leaps constantly.

WinniePig · 10/01/2021 17:00

My DD cartwheeled all the time at age 6, it progressed to forward / backward walkovers and we’re now in the roller skating phase. From the front door, along the hall, through the open plan living area and right up to the kitchen sink and repeat over and over and over and over...

garlictwist · 10/01/2021 17:00

I tired to do a handstand in the garden during the summer in a fit of lighthearted spiritedness. I sprained my hamstring.

BaronessBomburst · 10/01/2021 17:01

DS has taken to cartwheeling indoors. He's 10 so too big and tall for that carry-on. I've tried to get him to gymnastics but the classes clash with other activities. I think he'd be put off by the number of girls too. We tried 4 different dance schools but he was the only boy every time.

SoundWithoutAName · 10/01/2021 17:02

My DD is this like this, she insists I watch/take pictures and videos. It drives me mad. It has only been since her gymnastics lessons have been cancelled due to covid. Hoping she calms down when they resume.

gamerchick · 10/01/2021 17:02

@jojoandgrangran

I also have to video her hand standing. Sometimes in slow motion. I have to rate handstands from 1-10 if I sit down on the sofa for more than 5 seconds over and over and over again.
That's why its irritating you.

Be firm, tell her to fill her boots but you're not joining in anymore.
I'm well jealous, I've never been able to do anything like that.

Sethy38 · 10/01/2021 17:03

Similar
I said it was dangerous in confined space with people around
We agreed ONLY in her bedroom and outside

Job done

Santaiscovidfree · 10/01/2021 17:06

As a family we all showed off our headstands a couple of years ago... Dd was dumbstruck to see her 20 St df doing one!! Funnily it stopped her having contests!
Grin

Pagan101 · 10/01/2021 17:09

My DD would do this if she was coordinated enough. She can't do anything remotely like that unfortunately, but her best friend is exactly like your DD and it causes quite a bit of jealousy! No advice, but it's great that she's so active!

Cheeseandwin5 · 10/01/2021 17:14

I know this sounds annoying but I have to say it did make me smile when I read your post and rather jealous.

Londonmummy66 · 10/01/2021 17:28

I was like this as a child - DM used to set me a target of laps round the garden walking on my hands. Worth a try?

murbblurb · 10/01/2021 17:28

good for her but with the NHS on the point of collapse she needs not to cause injuries to anyone. So handstands yes, but a bollocking if she is careless around others.

DustyMaiden · 10/01/2021 17:40

My Dsis was like that, drove me crazy. She’s 57 now stopped a few years ago.

ImALittleBitAlexis · 10/01/2021 17:42

This was my DD at 6! She is now 10 and trains 20 hours a week doing acrobatic gymnastics, when we are not in lockdown obviously 😂
She still walks on her hands all over the house, and spends the rest of the time on her acro blocks doing crazy handstands on one arm etc.
Some kids just don’t don’t seem to tire from it! And it’s not so bad when they have a bit of control and stop kicking siblings in the face and knocking things over Wink

OliviaKeeling · 10/01/2021 17:48

As someone who if I did a forward roll the safest place for anyone to stand was in front of me as I invariably went sideways and cartwheels I just ended up with a pathetic leg kick and then falling on the floor, I'm immensely jealous!

PigletJohn · 10/01/2021 17:48

might it not strain or wear her wrists?

There is a joke about handstands which I will not repeat.

MellowYellow101 · 10/01/2021 17:51

Yep, mine does all sorts of gymnastics all day, every day. Drives me insane - especially when I want to sit down with a cuppa on the sofa for a moments peace and there she flings by me doing a cartwheel or something.

BUT...she enjoys it and it makes her happy in this horrible time were in, so i am picking and choosing my battles!

LouLou789 · 10/01/2021 18:01

I remember this infuriating; stage with my DGD. Usually preceded by the question, “Guess whether I’m going to do a handstand or a cartwheel?” and she somehow managed always to the one I didn’t guess 🥱 Thank heavens they grow out of it

wellthatsunusual · 10/01/2021 18:04

My daughter did handstands all day long until as a teenager she grew so tall that she couldn't do it safely in the house any more without kicking the lights, and around the same time she reached the self conscious stage where she wouldn't do it in public either. So I'd say it was about 7 years of handstands?
