I have an iPhone and I limit the amount of apps I have because I'm not technically minded and nor do I want to be, however, what apps do you have that you find really useful?

Depends what you like doing? If you let us know others may suggest things you might like.

  • I love radio and podcasts. I have BBC sounds, audible, tunein (radio around the world) and overcast. Also love travel have trip advisor - not do useful these days.

I walk/hike every day and find Ordnance Survey maps come in very useful.

Toilet Finder! With IBS it's essential for me but imagine it would come in handy for anyone.

Citymapper.

I don't know about useful but I like filler apps to kill time with.
I have MN obv, Reddit & FB and the Daily Mail.

Useful ones are banking, ebay, Amazon, lotto, Lidl.

I have class dojo, teams and zoom for being a grown up.

Also the NHS tracker thingy

Stocard. Stores your loyalty cards electronically so no need to carry them round or have the separate apps. Can also show your points balance for some cards.

The usual social media etc
However I have Facebook both as the app and as a saved shortcut to the webpage
(I run a few Facebook group pages and sometimes the ‘full’ desktop version gives more functionality then apps - I sometimes do the same with other software)

In ‘money’ I use Revolut for a virtual debit card.

This can be used for free, I can turn on and off the card plus scrap it for a new card number, and it only has as much money as I chose to put on it
They also provide real cards for a price but after I used the app for a while they offered me a free card.
The virtual card is especially handy if you’re wary of the website that you’re putting details into.

Adobe has free apps of its suite of Photoshop, Lightroom etc.
You need to create an Adobe account

Microsoft has free apps of Office, word, excel, PowerPoint etc
(You can also use web based copies for free)
You just need to create a Microsoft account

As a GPS I have a real GPS for proper journeys, but also NavMii and Waze on my phone
Some friends swear by Waze so I keep trying that, but my preference is NavMii

My Silent Disco club
We tried out first silent disco in 2019, and found out what we had been missing. If it wasnt for Covid we would have been trying to have our own mini silent disco
It sounds easy but the real fun is a few different styles of music for people to switch between and needs headphones that switch channel and transmitters for each channel.
Try and picture a bunch of people dancing cheesy pop, whilst in the middle of them one is raving to hardcore techno. (Also consider standing at the side without headphones people watching and trying to work out what they are listening to)

Hiring the equipment can be done and is fine for a party, but pricey when you want to do a few or difficult if you decide to gather at short notice

The MySilentDisco app means listeners just need their phone, headphones, the app and a data connection then swipe between channels
You as DJ need to set up the playlists for each channel in advance and load onto the website. Or you can not bother and just all sign into someone else’s if it’s public at a suitable time or the 24/7 default ‘never go home’

A couple of years ago I went through a lot of checkups trying to diagnose a condition, and my doctors use SystmOnline to manage their services.
There is an app but I don’t use it and use the website, they later added Airmid and I have the app for that
SystmOnline & AirMid give a number of options with health services & patient records. I can’t make an appointment online but as soon as it’s booked it shows up in my records, it has all test results, messaging, my medical history etc
The AirMid app has a prettier view with charts of the records
(This is dependant on your surgery using the appropriate software)
